You can find eggs from lairs ("Search lair" option on the radial dial).

Does anyone know the command for "Search lair"? I would like to bind it to the keyboard, instead of having to use the radial menu.

Also what creature lairs have eggs.... I'm having a tough time locating which ones have eggs and not other samples.

I'm pretty sure that's random.

Every lair has a chance of giving eggs. So you may find an insect lair that drops eggs or a mammal one. They will both give you the same 6-8 eggs. Remember eggs shift like everything else so find a good shift and hit the lairs.
Oh and the "Creature samples" you get from the lairs are worthless destroy them. They were for a cute artisan trick that no one cares about.

Another bit of info, once a lair has been searched it's empty. However, if you leave the area and then come back to it again, it's searchable. It's still random though, so if you get eggs the first time, you may get bats or bees the second.
I don't know if it's time based or distance based, but I'm guessing distance (far enough, maybe +200m, for it to disappear from your radar and respawn when you approach) because I've never been able to stay put at one lair and try to search it by waiting several minutes. If I go away on my swoop and then come back, I can search it again in less than a minute.
If you're really in need of eggs, I've found that getting two non-agressive mission lairs within a few hundred meters of each other will let you run back and forth to the two lairs. It seems to only work for about 4 or 5 tries each though and then neither lair offers nothing.

Definitely distance makes the respawn for search lair. I asked a chef friend of mine if she used eggs (you would think so), but she said she had no need for them. The one profession I think might use them would be doc or medic - making meds and used as an enhancer ... meds need a high quality resource for the organic portion of some meds/components. FWI - I was told by a doc friend of mine that he prefers to use high quality flora items rather than meat (his experimenting proved they provided a better quality med) eggs obviously aren't flora but might work too. If anyone knows who else might use them let me know.

I belive you can create a macro using /searchlair ... not sure -will test it. I have created macros for harvesting (ie: /harvest meat /harvest hide /harvest bone) and for looting /loot. I keep them on my tool bar with a key on my keyboard pointed to this macros/key ... saves a boatload of time rather than using the radial. Simply target with my mouse and hit the key to harvest and/or loot. Also, be sure to loot many creatures such as Rancors, voritors, klicknicks ... probably more .. as you sometimes get a loot item used by some crafters. You can then harvest them as well.

There isn't a lot of demand for them, but sometimes I do sell them to people who are planning special occasions. I even have had some success selling a fewon the Coronet bazaar 40-60 credits each. However, they it isn't worth it keeping more than a few on hand, and I never golooking specifically for them unless I have an order from someone (with the price, time, and amount pre-negotiated).

I think this distance is usually 500m. The same with that stupid disappearing Ticket Collector at shuttle- and starports.

Oh, I forgot to mention...
You can also search a lair while you're on a swoop. So if there's a great spawn of eggs on a planet and you're only in search of eggs, ride around on your bike, target the lair in the distance and as you get closer, hit the ` key to bring up the radial. Slow down, select "search lair" and then ride off and onto the next spot. You barely have to stop. It's like a drive-by looting.
Works great if you come across an aggro lair.
