Yesterday, I spent nearly all 4 hours fishing on corellia and got just over 600 fishing meat.. and then BE's wonder why fish meat is rarely availlable
While I was fishing I came up with this idea to help fish become more of a dependable resource:
Allow Master Rangers to use slots to make fish traps, which have to be checked dayly in order to make the most of them..
in order not to overpower them, allow only a limited quantity of harvest space, like 1000 or even 500, obtained over a 24 hour period, using two slots so one ranger couldn't possibly put up 10 fishnets.
In my opinion this would not replace regular fishing, heck, I love fishing, but a BE friend told me he needs like 12k fish meat for ONE schematic and frankly, I don't love fishing THAT much as it'd require me to fish at least a week nonstop , sleeping only on minimal times, to supply enough for one schematic, this is crazy
If I'd charge lost income based on how much I'd have earned harvesting Rancors the fish filet's prices would become astronomical indeed..
What do you all think ?

I like this idea. Like you say, some people need fish meat and it's a pain to get. If we had nets or the equivalent of troutlines that would be really cool. I've run troutlines in RL and it's fun to go out in the morning to check them. In that respect they'd be kind of like harvestors for us-- find a fish-heavy spot, set a line or a net, and come back later. The limit idea is nice and would balance out the fact that we wouldn't have to supply power a la a normal harvestor.
Good idea. Now think of a way to make shellfish harvesting viable. Lobster traps?

Something to consider to help out your friend that my son and his guild did .... hold a fishing tournament with a bunch of your buddies or guildmates.... this should help your friend get what he needs and everyone can have fun joking around while you do.

we're gonna go on a fishing trip real soon BUT I wanted a DEPENDABLE way of getting fish, not a way in which, once a month, ppl would get together and do my work for me!
That is considering they like fishing enough to come along, so far we've got a 3 ppl 'party'

If the traps took up a lot, why shouldn't they be similar to harvestors? Maintanence is required. But instead of power, they decay over time - being in the water and all that.
Just a thought.

We've brought up the idea several times in the past. Mostly in the form of a fishing net that you could use as a replacement for the pole. But its good to see it repopping back up again. It is something needs to be addressed. Even the devs, and Id have to really dig for this quote, said they wanted more fishmeat in the economy. (no really they did i need to do a seach to find the quote)

Just remember that the crafters are a bit over achieving--the schematic runs were only meant to be 100 items but they fought the Devs to keep a bug that made it 1000. Crafting was not meant to be such a mass market thing where 100k stacks of resources were the norm. I just hope things level out eventually.
But fishnets would be a huge boon to the crafters that use fish. Getting fish meat now is a real pain.

So it is not a myth? BE's really do want fish? I am curious what they offer because I am not really that interested in fishing reguardless of any xp it gives. I just figured if there was a market it was probably sour and observed that, since a fish is not going to jump out of the water and comince a in a 10 minute battle for its hide, aquiring the fish would not be that big of a deal. Well if I am wrong in my observations please correct me because my mercenary characteristics tells me to kill the hardest creatures for the best money.

How about make fishtraps then that act like camps in that they are only a one use affair, which require a good deal of resources , collect a limited amount of fish during 24 hours, and disintegrate over a 36 hour period if left unchecked?
they also should act like mines in that they shouldn't require the Ranger to stay in range..
I don't know, all I know is something needs to be adressed making it easier for a Ranger to collect fish and I thought a fishtrap would be one way of doing that which is realistic and should be do-able within the game limitations..
(wheee, first post and allready sticky, must be doing something right

This smacks of gill-netting in real life. I have tribal rights to gill net in Northern Cal and now that this subject of traps has come up there should be two things that happen:
-------------------The Right to Lifers should yell about the inhumane killing of innocent fishies
-------------------Devs will create fish that leap over the nets, just like real life.
Picking the right spot to fish with a pole makes all the difference.
Being Doctor Buffed makes no difference either.
Fishing on Tatooine is miserable and Fishing on Endor is glorious. I brought in 147 fish in 2 hours fishing in a straight line from the
Southern-most outpost moving north on Endor.
Southern-most outpost moving north on Endor.
I simply looked at the water (excellent graphics card on high res) and if i didn't see any fishes swimming, I moved on.
I only used one type of bait: the little jars of bait that Rangers can forage. Worked like a charm.
Now here's the kicker to the whole story:
I had this fish for a week and solicted every Bio-Engineer and chef at any levelI could find through Search.
Nobody wanted it.
Not enough fish to use in a grind, or its an unreliable resource, or the quality swings wildly.
I ended up destroying the whole lot. But it was great xp.
I now fish for sport, deploying my tents halfway into the water so I can get Wilderness Survival and fish at the same time.
And I still destroy all the fish I bring in.

I love the idea of a harvesting device of some kind that you can set up, check back regularly to see what fish you have caught. I like to fish now and again but as others have said, usually the meat can't be sold to anyone because the stack is too small. I think the xp rewards should be fairly minimal - it does take skill to set up a decent trap/line/net but you're not actively fishing so maybe not big rewards there... but to get more fish meat in the game, this would be great.
