Too bad the dev's have stated that our traps as such will not be used in PvP on players.

BHs had a shot at it, until they got the Master Scout requirement (hence trapping) removed from their profession.

At the very least, we should be able to trap pets in PvP.

Fantastic idea and well thought out.... but I fear JB's right. Keep the ideas coming though.

5* for your idea sir... though I'm a bit disturbed you want to trap rebels.... hehe

Well I'm not exactly a Ranger yet, but I have been thinking of ways to make Rangers at leastuseful in PVP. So for inspiration I of course turned to the Star Wars movies...

We see Chewie and crew on Endor. Chewie smells something... and finds the carcass of some animal. It cons blue for him despite it being dead, so he goes to harvest the meat for his next meal. Suddenly the trap springs, and he gets a message in spatial: I owned you noob! His group members look in the group interface- he's immobile. Luckily R2-D2, the wookie's helper droid, is there to cut him out. But it was a close call.

Everyone thought that trap was made by Ewoks right? Well they're all wrong. It was a Master Ranger, heyhey.

The idea is simple: On the third or so Trapping tree the Ranger gains access to a trap that has the ability to actually (gasp!) trap an animal of a small to medium size. The trap is resource intensive however, requiring bait and extra large amounts of resources to fashion it. However, it can remain in the game for up to 48 hours, and can at any time trap any animal that wanders by it. It doesn't make spawns, jsut anything that happens to be by it.

But to find a good place to make the trap, a Ranger could gain a new ability- Tracking as in prints andtrails, not area track. The skill would require a moderate amount of mind, and would not find the actual creatures, just trails that the creatures would hypothetically travel on to get food and waterand whatnot. Then the Ranger finds a good place to set the trap, plots in down, baits it, and waits. However, if an animal is caught, it must be seen by the Ranger and harvested within twenty four hours, or the creature nibbes it's way throught the trap and escapes.

As far as harvesting the catch, teh Ranger would simply Deathblow it (after all it would be completely defenseless) and harvest thedesired resources. The trap, due to the large amounts of resources required to build it, would be usable several times, but would need to be re-baited to actually atract an animal to it and spring it. Also, the trap, like I said, would only trap small to medium creatures, so you won't be trapping rancors and teh like, tehn walking up and deathblowing it. Also, there is a limited number of traps taht can be placed in that world, but to encourage it's use it would be high enoguh to be benificial to the Ranger.

You are still probably wondering how that makes a Ranger viable in PVP. Now that I've laid down the basis for the idea, I will explain this. At the Master Ranger level, aRanger gains acess to a single-use player trap. However, to avoid griefing, only members of the opposing faction mayspring the trap, and it may or may not immobilize them, depending on the success. Also, to make it more ambush like and to create an immediate confrontation, the player could get out of the trap by using an item, like a pistol or survival knife, to cut/blast themselves free. Basically, the way this would work is that a Ranger would assist a group by laying the trap, which will possiblyimmobilize the player(s), giving the others a chance to apply states, bleeds, and attack pools. However, the more the players attack the trapped player, the more the endurance of the trap goes down, assuming a few stray blaster bolts or weapon strikes will hit the trap. And also, member sof the same faction as the Ranger who placed the trap or nuetral players would get a message like "You've gotta bad feeling about this..." or "You recognize some disturbed leaves... somethings fishy around here" and if they continue, and only then, will they spring the trap. This is realistic in the sense that while it does give them a chance to avoid it, they still can end up as an unwanted catch.

This would create a whole new stealth oriented type of combat. Rangers would be more viable, and also, it would be awesome to trap some Jedi. Even Luke couldn't egt outta the Ewok trap without a little help, and even tehn it would have taken a while. This would give people a fighting chance against them, and make PVP a bit more spicy. I just think it would be really cool to sit there, waiting, and watch some 9 year old Rebel scumstep into your trap

The Devs have stated many things but they seem to change their minds some of the time. Wait for the revamp and we'll see what happens (I hope that we do get some PvP trapping capability).

Same here. Maybe not all traps will be pvp enabled but we sure have ideas for a few. And considering we have a very lackluster trapping tier i think we deserve some love in that regard.
