First off do you have scout?
Call out the droid, then drag the traps from your inventory and on to the droid. That have always worked for me.

Yeah I'm nearly Master Scout (4443).
Not sure if I have actually dragged and dropped, I'll try, but doesn't that just put them into the droids storage?

No it doesnt put it into storage. So you have to drag and drop them onto the droid. Then click on the droids radial menu and set a command for firing the trap. Its near the bottom of the radial circle. I use "Trap" yeah i know orignal.

You know.. heres an interesting question actually. Could I use a droid to throw traps like adhesive mesh while I stand back and chuck glowwires at the creatures?

otroslo,
Get a probot instead of R3. It has one less module but built in combat capabilities and looks more the part.
Kairene,
Simple answer is yes

i use a droid for traping and harvesting on a regular basis first find out how many traps your droid can hold by doing a examination of it you should see trap count and charge the count tells you the max amount of traps you can load charges tells you how many are loaded.
first you need to make the amout of traps you need, but you can only load one type of trap into your droid at one time, call your droid stand within 10m of your droid access your inventory and drag and drop your traps on to your droid, you should then get an on screen message say 5 traps loaded charges x what ever amount is in your droid.
setting a command and using your droid bring up the radial dial and use the trap comand click set comand i set mine as t, firing traps select a traget by clicking on it then press t , you should then see the driod target the animal then you will get a on screen message saying that the trap has worked or failed.
just one word of warning when using your droid, if you driod is not fitted with one combat module it will run away if attacked which is more likley to happen if you are grouped with your droid.
i hope this helps you out .

As has been said drag and drop the traps onto the droid. You can use examine to see what is your max and what is the amount you currently have in the droid. You must give it a command such as "fire" and either use a macro that has you state it or have your character state the command when you have the the creature targeted. If you don't have the creature targeted it will not work.
