Thread: Idea from armorsmith boards

I was over on the armorsmith boards when I saw something interesting. A line of armor specifically designed for one class. This has great applications in Ranger for helping to fix a few of our class issues, and give class interdependence. The armor works on a certification system like guns do, and requires specific modules be inserted into the basic"Ranger" armor frame. Could require components fromDE's, WS, andrequire power to function. Ranger armor could be specifically designed to improve movement speed, stealth, and resistance to damage from creatures (or just kinetic damage specifically), creature to hit bonuses, andotheruseful improvements.

Make several certifications within each skill tree. Novice Ranger: Basic Ranger armor certification. Improved resistance to kinetic attack 5%, conceal 5%, run speed 5%. Improving to a "Master suit" with improvements to all aspects of the armor.

Conceal/Stealth module certification. Provides activatable kitless conceal for all planets, received at end of extensive quest. At master level conceal is activated full time, and removes Ranger from radar.

TN module certification. Obtained at lvl 4. Provides burst run speed, without getting tired, while still able to use combat special moves. Because TN negotiation is made useless (with mounts), we need something to replace this skill. Otherwise 8 boxes of NOTHING is just rediculous. At master level, enable faster than burst run speed.

Creature Hunting module. Provides integrated creature targeting sight that could be required from a WS. This sight could identify the creature, and display vulnerabilities (in an RP sense) and improve targeting. Increases chance to hitOR increased damage to creature. The ranger selects the module they prefer for their specific uses.Additionally, this module could provide additional defense against creature attacks. Like the "creature toughness" suggested by Nraas. At master level able to simultaneously use all modules for creature targeting (damage and to hit) with improved modifiers.

Wilderness survival module certification. Provides improved regeneration similar to camps. I don't know, this one is more unlikely. Although one thing Master Ranger has taught me, the more I camp, the more I realize how unnecessary camping is.At master ranger enable the summoning of pets or droids w/o deploying a camp. That would be cool.

Trapping Module certification. Deploys single target root/snare traps automatically upon being attacked. Would require "loading" crafted traps into armor. This one would be wonderful. At Master ranger receive improved certification to select type of trap to load into device. Master rangers can select from all available traps.

I tried to think of a tracking module, but I can't really think of one. I can think of droid certifications for tracking, but no armor ones.

What do you all think of this idea? Yes I admit some of this (like the TN and need for /conceal kits) should be changed anyway, but in general is it something the Ranger community would support?

I guess this would leave wookiee rangers a bit SOL, but perhaps there could be equivalent modules placed into the tattered rags those furballs call clothing.

One thing I don't think was clear in all ^ that.

I am not suggesting that one of these armors would be required for our Ranger abilities. I think it would be better implemented as an augmentation to the way things currently work. You're a ranger with or without the suit, just more rangery with it.

Because no one is a ranger exclusively (Master Ranger/Master CH), this enables professions to further advance in their preferred style. We all would have the same +whatever to hit creatures, the armor would only improve that number by a percentage. Plus if all professions had this armor, using a ranger specific module would prohibit using a CH module. Perhaps requiring a general suit capable of taking modules from a variety of professions?

I believe completely that innately Rangers should be able to do everything above (except the autotrap and FASTER than burst run things). The armor just improves it in some way. 2 people with exactly the same skills, could be very different characters with two different sets of armor.

I think it is a neat idea but if implemented wookies need some type of armor pieces that allow them the same number of "attachments" as non wookies. This would go way beyond the functionality of skill tapes and armor power ups. I like it but want to make sure our large furry brethern don't get left out.
