Unfortunately the Devs shot this idea down already and basically said it would never happen due to balancing issues. Sorry.

Wait a tick, did we get a definitive answer on that or was that "supposition" do to the nature of past experience?

Guys,

It's not going to happen. They don't want any kind of invisibility DAOC type stuff in this game.

True, but I'm not going to waste time arguing on it, especially when we've got realistic priorities like a camp revamp.

We would no longer be the butt of jokes, however. poping in next to you out of thin air makes a statement

There *is* a statement that is currently made by the other person when this happens - as in "**edit**!!! Xp1Ot3R!!!!!11111".

I really, really hate the inviso bug that crops up from time to time.

Wide,

I know what you mean, and I understand. Other than the milk thing (which was really for the Chefs more than for us) we've not gotten anything new in a while. I'm hoping that I can point that out, but since there are other professions that have NEVER gotten anything new (SL, etc.) I don't want to start bringing the hammer down just yet.

What I can tell you is that the Devs have seen our proposals. That means a lot, because at least we know they know we've got some great ideas here. Hopefully these can gel into some changes, but they won't be within the next 2 months or so.

As for the camo thing, the Devs have said often that they don't want to give us that, but unlike the invisibility thing, I think it's slightly more likely that they would change their minds on that. But again, there are bigger, better changes that we need, like the camp revamp.

In any event, hopefully we can get some attention soon.

Camo -vs- NPCs: This still works. It hasn't been nerfed yet.. If I am wrong, then the NPCs (Endorian Marauders, anyone?) pity me to the point that they don't attack me while I've got camo up... Now, if it breaks, I'm fair game. I also think that the Devs will probably relent on this, because they are reasonable people who are just trying to make a good, fairly balanced game, and most EVERYONE agrees that camo should work against NPCs, not just Rangers.

Invisibility: As I've mentioned elsewhere recently, the new pet proposal is, instead of removing us from the radar and making us invisible, to change our dot on the radar to yellow (like most critters) and to remove the name from above our heads. This would make it so that we could, with the help of cover (vegetation, trees, creature lairs, etc.) hide from other players, and they'd be more likely to assume that we are just critters unless they actually see us... With a little strategy (something we Rangers talk about a lot) you can duplicate the effects of invisibility without being truly invisible, in the same fashion that hunters and soldiers have been doing for a century or more.

For the NPC vs Camo thing: there may be the same issues with it working on things is should not (the oppisite to when we found some faction problems). You might also want to test it under both conditions and many, many times. I was on Endor tonight and did notice they did not bother me right away without being camoflagued.

Swoops, Meatlumps, Nyax followers, ect. all see me irregardless what I do. Lag on Endor (Eclipse) is a tad high as 2 good hides are there, and peeps are flocking to the planet right now.

Personally I think the DAoC type of invisibility would look extremely cool. Although it would need to be self only for balance issues. However, that is not going to happen then fair enough. Is regaining cammo to affect NPC also a dead issue with the Devs?

If so should we be pushing for cammo to simply be scrapped and replaced with a more useful skill. "Feel/ RP" wise mask scent works fine. Cammo is stronger but not enough to cause most people to care about it. I would personnally like to keep some form of cammo skill, but there needs to be a substantial differentiating factor between it and mask scent (other than the fact that it can be applied to other people). If the two cannot be differentiated (and I dont think for balance issues we will ever get meaningful defensive mods from it) then it should be replaced or complimented with another skill to give the tree a use other than extra crawl speed for riflemen.

I'm still enjoying being a Ranger but it is disappointing that if I use ranger skills rather combat skills I am essentially useless to my organised hunting group - and yes I do know how to play my profession and can trap split mobs, use camps for healing and trackproperly etc.if needed - it's just that with recent changes these skills all have no meaningful impact in groups (scout traps still rock for soloing though), despitemy groupsbeing predominantly PvE creature hunting. Mainly, like many others, I just enjoy the idea of being a Ranger and dont want to give that up.

I also understand that the Devs are concentrating on the combat revamp and strengthening some of the more popular professions first. These are more important issues for the game as a whole and to that end I dont mind waiting (more) months for Ranger skills to be rebalanced, this is the nature of MMORGs. However, the total lack of response is just galling as it leaves nothing to look forward to or any idea as to whether there will be light at the end of the tunnel. The Outdoorsman proposal contained many great ideas to make the profession more interesting. I can see why a number of these are unlikely to be implemented, but would it take much effort for a few Devs to talk themselves through a few ideasover a coffee one afternoon and for a response to say - yeah 'x' idea seems cool we will take a look at it in a few months, no chance of 'y' due to balance/ game feel issues etc.

My apologies that this turned into a rant. I had meant it to be constructive but I guess the last paragraph sums up my frustrations. Still proud to be a Ranger!

No, I'm pretty sure it wasn't lag. I don't have any particularly low fac. with the Marauders, but they certainly don't like me.

Situation: I ran in among some Marauders, and camo broke. I took a step, and was immediately attacked by several, and incapped.

Recovered, camo'drana few steps, camo broke, was attacked again, and incapped again.

Recovered, immediately applied camouflage, moved slowly, and was able to conduct my business (polymer harvester) and move away.

This is the most notable situation, but it's happened other times where camo has, or at least seemed to, saved my butt from hostile NPCs.
