polymer is a special type of inert petrochemical, so you will find under the chemicals category and it will be labeled as inert petrochem - you have to look at the details to see if you really got a polymer though (lubricating oil is another inert petrochem, but you dont want to buy that since it isnt a polymer)

Capn, why buy?

Get a wind generator, drop it anyplace. After a day of collecting wind (energy), buy a chemical extractor harvestor thingy. Drop it next to your wind gennie. See if there is any inert petroleum (polymer) in the ground. Don't worry about quality, you are looking for quantity. If there is, mine it. If not, get something else and wait for a resource shift.

No kidding, I have enough poly to make traps from now til St Swithins day (whenever that is). And you can see the stuff you do mine and don't want to grinders. A win/win.

These things really do pay for themselves.

Another suggestion: as you go around hunting, keep an eye out for chemical harvestors. When you see a forrest of them, drop one down near and see what is there.

I haven't had surveying skills since September.. but ifI ever need something, I just look around for where there's already a crowd of harvestors. Of course this works best with wind energy, but I take a gamble with other types of resources too...

Also, since we use relatively small quantities compared toother crafters, a good K or two can last a long time. I've have my pile of steel for Phenc traps for at least two months....

Cripes, I've been playing this game since August and it never occured to me that I didn't have to be an artisan to use a harvestor.
