Thread: Leaving TKM, Entering Swordsman..Any Suggestions re: Tactics
I have left the self-sufficiency of TKM to go pursue the challenges of the swordsman. As most of you know, I am not hologrinding, I am experimenting with different aspects of the game to find a good fit with rangering.
With that said: My ranger partner is a rifleman...however, I hunt solo a lot. Are there any other ranger/ swordsman who have tips and tactics learned from experience to make my new combat profession more effective?
Thanks in advance
Sorry no particular tactics perse. I spend a lot of my time buffed and have something going to bolster my mind. I do most of my hunting with Fredso our head hits can take down things very fast. Of late as a master we try not to hog all the fighting xp so I am boxing dummy for the attacking creatures. But if we run into something that would do a number on our group or if a creature gets away and attacks a novice we head hit and kill quickly. My best suggestion for you in a group and even solowould be to run up the skill tree with head hits. The problem with the other attacks are that they hit every ham bar randomly. With head hit of course you are killing on one ham.
Speed will be one of your critical things. Either get a high damage curved sword or a speed sliced powerhammer. I used the powerhammer a lot just seemed to work best even though it was slow thus my nickname "The Hammer". Maybe it was just the weapons I had. As a master I have been playing a lot with the cleaver. Fun weapon. Going up the skill trees you want to focus on speed with some good damage.
It was fun going for master but even more fun being a master. Watch out going into the swordsman forum. Seems like there is a lot of whining and not much suggesting. The board seems full of children who worry about how uber they possibly can be rather than be constructive and work on tactics.
In any case I love swordsman and enjoy playing my character. Sorry if I wasn't much help but just remember from what Ican tell speed is what keeps the swordsman in training from being overly devasting. Master solves the speed issue ;-).
Good Luck

you were a lot of help...I go hunting with Rancorrider and hes a master rifleman...which is one of the reasons why i went swordsman. I had maxed out my combat xp with tka, and now im 1.1.1.3 and I am having a blast.
thanks for the comments and suggestions. So far, it seems like a great combo. I went to the swordsman forums and then decided to post here. I read the FAQ in the swordsman forums for leveling info, but i asked here for tips and tactics...a few more brains in this forum
thanks again Chile
I went to the forums and I found some of the super-knowledgeable people over there...I guess im just spoiled on these forums
Had a hunting partner who was Ranger/Fencer. I made out quite well in the healing XP department, kept me maxed so friends could teach me over and over for AXP.
I would be at 63 meters, causing bleeds and generally draining the healthpool. My friend would charge in and commence to sticking his pointy in the creature. He had good dodges later on, but early on... wow, he got beat on. I stayed back, shooting and healing his silly butt.
He later went CH, dropped most of this combat skills to do so (yeah, I said dumbazz, twice even). Now he has a dancer (female) who is also a Master Rifleman(woman) who is better to hunt with. go figure
All I can say is, buff, have stims, wear armor early on. Good luck.

Already at the lower levels before the defenses really kick in and I get any good damage mitigation, the critters pound on me as I pound on them. Fortunately I have med skills and one of my amigas is a dancer/ doctor (aka professional buffer). Already, with some of the tougher critters, I find that good, targeted headshots are really useful in a pinch, otherwise a well placed spin attack is a wonderful thing
Ahhh...the oldest profession
