Thread: Why Ranger? thinking of training this way.
- We can make a lot of money, but not as much money as a weapon or armorsmith.
- We can harvest more than scouts. 30% more, on average.
- We can camo other people.. but it seems to break more often than mask scent, even when we camo ourselves.
- We've got really neat looking camps. I mean, really neat. People almost always say "Wow" when they first see one. They heal almost as good as a standard medical droid, too.. but not quite.
- We can track animals and NPCs. Once they've spawned. If we're not in the mountains. Or a solar flare. Or a lunar eclipse. Or...
- We can also track players. It's pretty neat. But be careful. Players move around a lot. Sometimes, those dastards, they hide inside of buildings right next to you, thereby becoming untrackable.
- We can rescue our friends. If we train the friends first. They tend to not know how to react to being rescued.
- We're pretty good at throwing scout traps. Don't bother with ours, though. They suck. And there's only two of them.
Congrats to the post above, on starting reading I thought it was going to be one of those "woe is me" negative posts, but no. Not at all.
I can not agree more with the above view point, Ranger is a tad busted as a professionbut as a community second to none, hance my wearing my Master title with pride....
If you join us, ........welcome friend.
You get lots of chicks.
...
Yeah, mostly I do it for the chicks.
Actually you can manage that "60m to 5m in one warp" with concealshot and conceal. As a Ranger it is very forgiving: 6 misses before the head pounding starts. There is a bleeder bug tho (or maybe NOT a bug... Mmmm...).
Still, Rifleman makes a good hunter at master. However, it's a little tiring running up, harvest, running back, shoot, running up, harvest, running back, shoot, running up...
I get the feeling it is much harder hitting critters then peeps in PvP. I hear stories of rifleman hitting players with impunity, @ 20m and running... they say they never miss yet, I sure see missing in my combat spam
. As in the preceeding paragraph, I will be keeping in ideal range as much as possible
.
I didn't really pick the Rifleman part bacause of utility tho, I picked it for image
. Melee guys do have it good, but they need buffs in many cases. TKM with self buffing or Rifleman with higher up front damage you could get away without buffs but forthe "big stuff". Although, I tend to get "winded" a LOT more then my hunting buddies... maybe I should rethink that...
I guess go with what you like
. If there is a problem with the prof (*cough*pikeman*cough*) you can whine there, get out all your hostilities and come back here feeling better and all warm and fuzzy
.

If you wrap up yourself like a mummy in skilltapes like the PvP crowd does you won't miss either
(And some now use the tenloss dxr6b, I have such a baby too and with a +120 modifier on ideal range I never miss either)
You know, I forgot about the Jawa, and you are right; that bugger has better PB mods. I usually hunt with a T21 and a E11, which would explain my experiences. I refuse to pay 500k for a skill tape that 1) I potentially could find myself someday (so far not) 2) only seemed to be marginally useful for the cost. Therefor, I don't have any. Walk a lot or pay 500k... I'd rather walk

Another thing: The PvP'ers usually use the Jawa Ion Rifle which has as far as I recall (I just decorate my wall with it heh) a lower optimal distance.
