Thread: Your method of Tracking

I only ask as i have only recentley started tracking and as yetdon't have any set way, for instance sometimes I'll just roam about until i find what i'm after, then other times I mark out a grid using Waypoints and then navigate around them, the odd occasion i will sprial out from a central point - no one method seems to have its advanages, tho they each have thier disadvantages.

The "just roam" method is simply too hit and miss to be used regulary, the grid method is good but is time consuming to setup and then mounting and dismounted every 300m (yes i know we can track upto 400m but doing 300m provides overlaps) becomes a chore and finally the spiral method - i find i am going over spots 2 or three times and is pretty pointless when doing 1km diameter sweeps (it takes alot of time to do a sweep this large too)....

Do you have any tried and tested methods? - it became apparent to me that maybe my methods of tracking were either too complex or not complex enough when tracking for my Jedi friend recentley.

hit /are once, then move the window that pops up to the corner of your window so it's available but not blocking your view, now hit a macro that you've made containing about 20-30 /are commands in sequence

what happens is you have tons of open /are windows that read "animal/people/player" (the first selection box)

now you jump on your speeder/swoop/av21 and track your first time, if nothing found, /waypoint to drop a waypoint at your loc, head north however far you want, use one of the windows and from there on you can either start doing a line search, spiral around, grid search or whatnot..

point being, you dont have to dismount or open new /are windows but can keep on the move, this is 3-4x faster than doing it the "oldfashioned" way

of course, i usually still stumble on stuff after going 10m from my last tracking spot.. ludicrous

and I know its stating the obvious, but while you can track while mounted, you do have to stop moving.

top tip, btw!

I pick an area where Im going to track for the target animal/npc. Then I put a way point in the bottom corner of that area. I stand on the waypoint and areatrack. If nothing shows up I move north 1000 metres and areatrack again. When I get to the most northern point in my target area I dop another waypoint, and move east or west 1000 metres. Drop another waypoint there and move south 1000 metres. Pretty much your standard grid search but I dont mess about setting up WPs beforehand.

If you do /ar alot and dont use the areatrack boxes (so just leave them open in the bottom of the screen), you can then jump on your bike and drive off. When you want to track you just stop, press the alt key to turn to cursor mode and use one of the tracking boxes, this way you can track while still on your speederbike. You also might want to make a maco that targets your speederbike and mounts it. After a while mounting your bike is going to get very boring everytime you have to dismount to mask your scent.
