Gonna give you a crash course in "hunting for profit".
First of all, you'll want to find some contacts. These are doctors/AS, etc. who will offer you fair money for your resources. They won't set an amount, but rather will buy whatever you have, and may offer an incentive if you collect more. Relatively simple to do, just talk to people, or leave a post on your servers' trade forum (NOT in the Ranger forum, or any other proffesssion forum).
Okay, now on to the actual hunting. The most important thing I can teach you is that resources change. Just like some seasons, the mink fur isn't as good as others, in SW:G, resources change over time. What this means is that sometimes, the really good avian meat is on Talus, and sometimes it is on Tatooine. There is no set time for these changes, so you should find a good website that collects and keeps tabs on current resources. I personally use SWGcraft.com. There are other sites, but the advanced filter options there should do you well.
The next thing you should know is your prey. Sometimes, you can get a high cpu (credits per unit) for good meat...but it can be awful to collect since you're killing animals with small harvests. It may be better to get a slightly lower quality meat on a planet where you can get a lot of material. Animal harvest on not based on the "size" of the creature, but rather are determined by their creature level. Thus, on starter planets, you will be very hard pressed to come up with large quantitites of stuff. However, if there is good herbivore meat on an adventure planet, the likelihood is that you can get a bunch.
so there are the basics. Make sure you keep tabs of what is good at the moment, since that resource will never exist again. The herbivore meat there today will not be there in a month, it will be a new "type" of herbivore meat. That's why you have to keep tabs on it. Oh and there are certain resources which, if they are good, will always pay well: herbivore meat, avian meat and wooly hide are all desirable resources.
I hope this helps.
