Last night i noticed as i tracked around on naboo, that my area track was only picking up stuff that i had already passed by.

Ill explain what i mean..

I was riding my bol (tinfoil), and every 50m i would stop and track. i was moving in a due east direction, and i noticed that all of the animals in the track window were either to the west, southwest, or morthwest. Never in the East, northeast, or southeast....this is indicating that i area track in only picking up the animals that are behind me...

And im sure that you have all experienced this, but you will perform an area track..and find that there is nothing in the area, only to move about 5m, and all of a sudded a bunch of critters spawn!!!

Dont know if the devs are trying to lessen us rangers ability to find stuff, or if its just a bug....

My sever felt like it was stressed last night. Dantooine was very laggy for me and that made areatrack useless. You probably were in a similiar situation. Tonight, it was working just fine.

iirc /area wil only find stuff that has already spawned. If your server was under heavy load for some reason it could be that dynamic spawns were ultra low.

On a related note, anyone heard anything about rangers with areatrack being able to push jedi onto the BH terms because of visibility? Fact or urban legend??

Fact Ken

If you observe a Jedi using his Jedi Powers said Jedi becomes visible.

There was a discussion on this on another forum re: Is using areatrack to find a Jedi and follow the Jedi around griefing? No real final answer, but the inclination was it was not.

I can't count the number of times I have been in East Middle Left Overshoe and run across Jedi beating on animals. Only one got mad and sent me tells, saying I was intentionally following him...blah blah blah. He got sent to /addignore land.

Just another fun thing that /ar is useful for.

Hmmm...

Areatrack works the same way for me - it only picks up creatures that either have spawned becuase I drove past them earlier or it only picks up stuff within some odd 250m (on a good day) in the direction I'm travelling. I don't know how you other rangerinos feel about areatrack and spawnranges, but I sometimes wish having ranger would make things spawn soone and further away - then we could track something we haven't already seen

Yup, would be nice. I wonder what happened to the /track command that was proposed?

Well is it not obvious... When Holocron was Kicked up the ladder, his vision for SWG left with him. A sad day for SWG when he was promoted.

I did note that it said that the new traps were almost done. What happened to them?

I'm having a similar problem, but server load can't be the cause...

I tested /area on some slinking voritor hunters lurking just outside town (less than 250m away) and it only picked them up if they showed on my radar. The first /area showed nothing. Then I moved toward them to make them show on radar, and they showed up in /area. Finally after a couple minutes sitting at 250m, the voritors despawned and I tried again, and /area caught nothing. Since I tested it at 7AM central, I doubt the server is overloaded atm.

Just to clarify, are you asking if their name appearing in your list after an /areatrack increases visibilty? I would have thought not, unless they are within 32m? I doubt anyone is willing to test though
