JBMat,

I have heard you explain in pieces about your fighting techinque of using pistols and a droid to do your hunting. I was hoping you could go into more depth on what favorite pistol type (beside DE-10), the specials you use, food, armor, and also what type of droid you use. I think I have seen parts of this information spread out in threads and was hoping to get it in one place so I could add this to the unbuffed fighting thread. Thanks.

I can reply to this... in a sorta way.

if you're a noncombatant...

the droid can draw aggro, then it offers a solid DPS. meanwhile, it can 'tank'. the advantage to a pistol is mobility. the disadvantage is low DPS and AP at increased at high skill level.

marksman: pistol 1... can use a DL44 (current crafting allows these to break 400 dmg/shot with good speed.

marksman: rifle 1... a DLT20a can't compete. it's too slow.

if you're a pistoleer, you'll see the failings of pistols. if you're a rifleman, you'll see the advantages to a rifle.

it comes down to a breakpoint between weapons and skillmods... when DPS is a feature of SPEED, it favors pistols. when DPS relies on speedcapped DAMAGE, then it favors skill... and rifles.'

that said, traps and distracting targets nearly always favor the low-skilled. a debuff to the target does wonders for survivability.

I don't own a DE-10, altho I do have the schematic and a barrel. Just waiting to find a reliable weaponsmith to put it together.

On to the tactics -

I spot 3 torturs for example. I am already maskscented to include my bio mod clothing. The droid comes out and I group, both so I can keep tabs on his condition and for the XP bonus.

I choose the closest creature. From 64 meters I pop a healthshot 1, a heathshot 2 and a stopping shot. Then peace. 95% of the time this works. No aggro. I move to 75 meters, keeping the droid between me and the creature. As soon as the first bleed ticks the creature aggros. It starts to charge, but as the droid is between us, it aggros the droid. At 64 meters he gets a double tap, at 50 meters a P dart. If the dart sticks, we now have a slow or stopped creature. I tell the droid to attack. If a glow wire will help (depends on resists) I toss one of those next and then start double tapping the creature. Between the two bleeds, the droid, and the double taps it doesn't take long for the creature to drop.

This method works on Talus, Corellia, Naboo, Rori, Lok and Endor with amazing success. If you are cash poor, grab a pair of Glowing Lantern Bird missions on Endor while unarmed. They will be level 40, pay 10kish and be close to the starport. Only two birds per level, so harvesting is slim, but the creds make up for it. You can use this method on Dath, Dant and Yavin, just takes practice and knowing what not to fight, and watching out for the locals.

Pistols - check the resists. Lately I have been using a DX acid pistol except on Lok Kimos. Then I use a Blaster. To drop the lair I like to use my Scout, as it is faster and less HAM draining. Regardless of the pistol type you prefer - Get it sliced and look around for power-ups. Amazing things those power ups. And look at the HAM costs, lower is always better.

Droid - Either a probot or a decent R model tank. The probot is a level higher and shoots faster, but has 1000 lower HAM than the R model. The trick with the droid is staying behind it. Let the creature aggro the droid. Should the aggro trick not work, with luck the 2 or 3 creatures all aggro the droid, letting you move around bleeding them all then dropping them one by one. The R model also has two attacks, kinetic and electrical, while the probot only has energy.

Stims - Good Bs. I have novice medic. My stuff gets weak, I heal on the run.

Armor - Unless I buff, I don't wear any. If I do wear armor, comp for NPCs (the stupid agitator schematic took a while) and ubese for creatures. Just standard stuff, nothing special. Though I did get it sliced.

Food - Accargrm and Brandy. Action and mind. If I have to, I do have a force crystal for Health, but I usually forget to use it. Synth steak once in a while, depends on the creatures. Veghash now and then, but that does nothing for fighting.

Sneaky stuff -

Terrain - we run faster uphills than most creatures. On most planets you can circle a creature to death as you run up and down hills in a cirlce around the lair. Even on the flats on Naboo and Corellia there are small gulches and little hills, use them. The p dart gets you a lead and TN lets you keep it.

NPCs and other creatures - Now more than ever. You make an enraged rancor mad, run him into some makloks or a Nightsister. You stay back while they fight, and maybe you can harvest everything. Stormies really hate Kimos and keep them busy for a while. Kimas on Talus attack anything. It's a tactic, use the natives to help.

To sum it up, shoot, peace, trap, droid, shoot, move. You win a lot.

Have fun with it

Unless you have a high amount of extra pistol speed avail, you are usually better of using a Republic Blaster instead of the DE-10 anyway, with "just" master pistoleer pistol speed the slowness of the DE-10 ruins the damage per second you can deal.
