I was talking to this Rodian in the Bestine Cantina last night, and he started telling me these stories of these "great hunts" he's been on. Said he killed a Rancor in it's own nest with just a thigh bone. Well, he sent myself and a Master Ranger friend out on a series of hunts to prove our worth.
He assumed the 2 of us were a little green behind the ears, as he started us off on something real easy. We had to kill 10 Cannibal Dewbacks. I thought, oh, this'll be easy, just head to a local job listing terminal, and take a contract to kill some of them that had been encroaching on some local farmer's land. To my dismay, we couldn't find anyone having any problems with the dewbacks. So myself and Sticught headed out into the Dune Sea to try and find some. After about a half hour of tracking, we finally came across a pile of rocks that a pack of Cannibal Dewbacks called home. After a few minutes we had collected all of the necessary Jaw Bones that the Rodian wanted.
We headed back to bestine, but he didn't seem impressed. He said to really prove our worth we should head out to Lok, and take down some Snorbals. He thought he was sending us on a suicide mission, but little did he know that both of us call Lok "Home". We knew that Snorbals liked to hang around the Starport at Nym's Stronghold, and at night them like to come hang around the shuttles (i think they like the warmth from the engines). Because of this, we were able to follow their tracks north for about 400 meters until we spotted a pack of Snorbals on the horizon. They put up more of a fight than those Dewbacks, but through precise aiming, we made short work of the Snorbals, and collected the tusks for the "great hunter".
Back to Bestine we headed. The rodian hunter seemed a bit impressed, but quickly shifted to shrug off our accomplishment as something that any greenhorn with a CDEF could have done. He then told us a story about when he killed 5 Jungle Voritor Hunters in one day on Dantooine. Well, we knew it was time to step it up, and really show this hunter what we were capable of doing. So we decided we would beat his reacord, and return after killing 6 Voritors. This was easier said than done. We scoured a LARGE portion of Dantooine, without finding a single creature. As we neared a larger rebel stronghold on Dantooine we realized that we might run into some Rebel Freedom Fighters, and we would have to watch our step, and not draw any attention to ourselves. As we neared this city, Sticught noticed some Voritor tracks heading North West. After a few minutes of skilled tracking, he was able to spot a pile of Huurton bones along the bank of a river. It would appear that this pack of napping Voritor Hunters had just finished dinner, and were relaxing along the river after a successful hunt, but little did they know the hunt wasn't over. After applying some Camouflage, we snuck in for a closer look, and luckily for us, there were 6 Voritors all grouped together. The sun was beginning to set, and we knew we couldn't let any of these lizards get away if we were to beat the old hunter's record. After a long, hard-fought battle, we stood over the corpses of 6 Voritor Jungle Hunters. Boy will that rodian be furious that we beat his record.
After camping under the stars of the Dantooine system for the night, we headed back to the Imperial outpost, and quickly flew back to Bestine to show off our trophies. The old hunter was FURIOUS. He thought his record was unbeatable, but we proved him wrong. I think he was so angry that he wanted us dead, as next he told us to go out and kill off a Rancor, and return one of its teeth as proof.
Dathomir is one of those planets you just don't go to alone. There are rumors of witches that walk the lands, and ride on the backs of Rancors. Anything with the power to tame a wild Rancor should not be taken lightly. We tread very carefully across the mountains of Dathomir so as to not be spotted by the witches, or any of the wildlife of the planet. "I've heard Dathomir has spiders taller than a wookiee." I tell sticught. He's heard these same campfire stories, and we've both decided that we'd like to keep that a campfire story for now. Something about giant spiders just doesn't seem like a story I want to go out and prove. After a few more minutes of traveling, Stic notices some very large footprints in the mud. He remembers from seeing trophies of rancors in the past that these are Rancor tracks. We follow them, and spot a lone rancor resting on a tree stump. Stic slows his movement with some traps he crafted while we flew to Dathomir. We then unloaded on him with the might of our best hunting weapons. After a few minutes of fierce fighting, we dropped the rancor. I pried his jaw open, and we each retrieved a tooth from it's gigantic mouth as proof of our kill.
Back in Bestine, the old rodian hunter finally begins to give us some respect, but he will still not call us equals. He tells us the story of how he lost his arm and legs to an Uller the Rodian hunters refer to as "Sawtooth". He claims this Uller is twice the size of a normal Uller, and is a frighteningly grey color. He says that if we can avenge him, and return one of Sawtooth's eyes, then he will truly consider us great hunters. he also offered us a prototype of the cybernetic arm that he wears. supposedly it will help with aiming a weapon, but most likely i'd just find someone who would buy it, as i'm not having some quack doctor cut off my arm and replace it with a droid arm.
So we head off to Kashyyyk, and into the "Dead Forest" as some of the locals have begun to call it. We didn't even know where to begin to search for this Sawtooth, as neither of us had ever seen an Uller roaming the dead forest. After a few minutes of searching, we ran into a Wookiee. judging by his dress and equipment, he wasn't a local. he appeared to be some sort of off-world smuggler. He said he knew were Sawtooth called home. After negotiating a price, and throwing some credits his way, this wookiee was able to guide is to where Sawtooth lived. And there he stood, several meters tall, and a very light grey color. this was indeed who took that rodian's legs. I startled him with a quick burst of electricy from my pistol, and Stic began landing well placed sniper shots on him. After a few minutes of fighting, Sawtooth had fallen. I pulled out my trusty hunting knife, and removed Sawtooth's left eye to bring back to show that the hunter had been avenged for his missing limbs.
Back in Bestine we show our trophy to him. He couldn't be more pleased. He now thinks of us as equals, and this is great, as i've heard campfire stories of this great hunter, whom we all thought was dead, but here we are, having drinks with Qakkee, one of the greatest hunters to ever come from Rodia.
=====================================
For anyone who hasn't done this quest, it's a fun one, and very Rangerish

I started this quest(s) last week, and I'll be damned if there are any Cannibal Dewbacks on Tat (I hear taking missions for them will bug you).

I tracked them down instead.
I had to head out a bit, but I found the highest hill outside of Bestine Cantina and went towards it, continuing in that direction until I /areatracked a Cannibal Dewback.

I ad no luck with tracking them down. I searched the entire dune sea for them (got as far as 5mk from Bestine), but to no avail. Admittedly, I have not checked other areas of the planet (I recall a bunch of them nearish the Krayt Graveyard, back in the day).

Cannibal Dewbacks are the easy part. I thought Snorbals had become extinct.

It's like the explorer terminals all over again. When you have a mission for a specific critter, they all disappear, but if you don't one, the planets are sick with that critter! GAH!

You silly lizard. Your reptilian brethren are hiding out just where old stumpy the bug faced (is that a euphemism for having had three to many rice balls?) tells you. South West of Bestine in the Western Dune Sea.
If you head SW (not SE like I did... worse, I kept going till I hit the edge of the map, hunted around for an hour, then logged for the night before realising what I'd done...) until you enter the WDS you'll see heeeyuge clusters of dewies. Mostly swarming and plain vanilla ones, but in amongst the whole mess are some cannibals. That mouseover works a treat, specially with the map hauled out to 256m
Snorbals on Lok, otoh, seem to have been swamped out (on Bria at least) by the massive gurk mission spawns that the lobotomy crew are dredging up. /sigh Just got to get back on after a server reset.
Already got Sawtooths eye, figured it was 'interesting' when I looted it. He's not too tough, just a big old teddy bear. And rancors are for girls... lol

Heh...maybe on Bria.Trust me...I was SW of Bestine (even hit Jabba's Palace and Wayfar). My guild mate, who was having the same problem as I, finally tried using someone else's mission to get his quota (obviously those aren't bugged...just your own mission).
we found ours just outside Mos Nova on Lowca

'sploiter!
Just down to Wayfar? Jeepers, both my nerfed ranger on Bria and my toon on Infirmity were way further out than that.
I'm really curious about these missions, actually. Cos, if when somebody talks to whatsisname in the bar ten cannibal dewies pop up 'somwehere to the SW, etc' that suggests theres a motherlode of the blighters stuck behind a dune or somewhere creating laaag... OTOH, if it's just 'head out and find some, you might get lucky, you might steal somebodies mission' that's a bit hit and miss, eh?

hehe - I wonder if you'll find the moisture farmer before you find the dewbacks. As in, I found three damn moisture farmers but not a stinkin' dewback.
I wimped out and just took missions for mine - it didn't bug me, but that was a while ago....
Tat on my server has serious issues. There's one or two places where there will be a good spawn rate, but the rest is desolate.
