Thread: Well SoE ... I've finally surrendered Master Ranger
To be honest I wasn't Ranger/TKM for very long as I mastered ranger a few hours before the CU due to the fact I knew it was gonna cost me 1 million post CU.
As for the melee/ranged defence as a Master Ranger/BE I had 10 on both and with BE Clothing broken (alt was a tailor) I was taking my life in my hands everytime I went anywhere near anything more dangerous than a Durni!!
I'm not too bothered by the CL, it's the lack of related combat abilities that annoys me. I like to adventure solo and only hunt occasionally for hide if our guild AS needs some. I make all my creds in space so it was purely a roleplay choice.
Is Ranger/Bio Engineer a rare combination then? I was thinking that the camo would help protect against aggro and if really dangerous (Lok & Dant specifically) i'd wear the armour but alas I appear to be wrong.
Sorry, am rambling now ... not had chance before as everyone else in guild was like 'tough, drop ranger and become a combatant and come grind with us' and the best one was 'oh, u wanna solo ... become a jedi then as they are the toughest solo char' !?!

BE doesn't give CL does it? So that'd make you around CL 60 with some Marksman thrown into the mix? Regardless, "Rangers are not a combat profession." At least according to the Developers. If they had it their way, Rangers would not get any CL and so if you were Master Ranger/Master BE you'd be Level 1. You basically ran into a hostile situation without any, or with very limited Melee Defense, and ranged speed and accuracy. You'd have been better off keeping master TK, or picking up an entire ranged profession, but you should be somewhat effective with some BH, but you won't do nearly as well as you did as TK pre-CU.

i dont know about camo, but mask scent is bugged. Im lvl 80 so when i go taming, the nests are grey con to me. If i mask scent and it breaks, however, they do argo me. In this way, mask scent is doing the exact opposite of what it is intended. I dont even use it anymore. Its useless for CL 80 characters.
Conceal is "bugged" as well. It's the same system.
Grey cons are not supposed to attack but since the Devs didn't bother about us all creatures, even the grey cons, check against /maskscent and /conceal and well, if it breaks you are aggroed.
It's not a top priority to get fixed since the ones who need /conceal are the CL 1 characters who don't encounter grey cons and the rest of us, if we encounter something that isn't grey, we'remost likely looking to kill it.
Lesson learned, don't /conceal or /maskscent in most cases.
/conceal however is still worth it versus NPCs
I am sorry to see another Master Ranger go!
I am slowly working on becoming a Master Ranger/Master Bio-Eng myself, but I am lucky enough that one of my guild members is a Master Bounty Hunter/Master Pistoleer and he goes with me everywhere for the simple fact that I am a weak pathetic combat fighter.
He's my Hero!
/gag
Unless we want to tame it

Well, I just reactivated my account after having been gone a year, but I can tell you that back then, I was one of the very few Ranger/BE combo on my server and I loved it, but from what I've been reading lately, this combo doesn't seem to excel like it used to.
Been considering dropping Ranger and trying something else. I have to admit that I'm shocked that they've let this profession sink to the depths that its currently at. I figured these days Rangers would have a role now. :/

We do have a role now, it's the red-headed stepchild lol. Actually I love being a scout/ranger, I'm almost back to novice ranger on my main (never dropped ranger, just deleted the character and remade him later on) and all my other characters have at least novice scout.
Thats seems to be the most viable way to be a 'Ranger', that is skip the actual Ranger skill boxes and pick up Scout and other combat skills. Its actually more beneficial in game to pick up Scout and other skills and RP at being a Ranger than it is to actually be a Ranger.
The entire Ranger profession, sadly is not needed or necessary in SWG. If you simply have Scout 3000 you have everything you need to live the 'lifestyle' of a Ranger.
