Thread: 8 red dots within 64m and no agro?
From what I read, the maskscent check happens at 2 specific distances rather than constantly, I don't remember exactly, but I Thought it was 65 and 35m. if you didn't cross that invisible line around them, it wouldn't check for you.
I'm not 100% on this, but it was in a scouting/ch guide I read somewhere.

To avoid just such situations, aggressive beasts have a timed delay after spawning before they will actively engage someone. You are safe until that timer runs out to get out of aggro range.
As well, many beasts will not attack until you are within 25m of them. Though most times they will wander in your direction until you are within that distance and THEN attack you.
i think it has nothing to do with your camo skill....lower lvl mobs dont usually attack me now even without camo up. so if you are talking about hermit spiders or something like that...well...even shaupauts, they dont usually attack you when youare high enough incombat lvl.
There is also a check on attack. If successful it gives you an additional free hit. The check also goes to the next possible aggro mob (I think). It only attacks if /maskScent fails. The rest seem to simply not be checked and don't attack.

I'm a creature tamer, and I've tamed a lot of critters. Just because a dot is red doesn't mean you will get attacked by the creature--at least as far as animals are concerned--it means you CAN get attacked. I typically walk right up to Greater Desert Womp Rats without even thinking about it. It'll just stare right back at you most of the time (probably 80-90% of the time).
Based on experience, I would assumethere isprobably some calculation based on distance and the ferocity level of the creature. With animals, anything above 40m is very safe. Under 30m, and you are likely to get attacked if it's a creature with high ferocity. If it's low ferocity red, you can walk right up and sit down, and nothing will likely happen.
With NPCs, stay over 64 if you can. When you have a too many red dots to avoid, I'd tend to steer in the direction of the creatures over NPCs when possible.
Don't be fooled by the hermit spider. They show up red on your radar but they're not really aggressive. In fact, they may be broken.

As your characters owndifficulty rating increases, you'll find that the easier critters tend to either RUN away as you approach, or simplyignore you.
I find this a very cool AI feature. I love running into herds of Hermit Spiders and watch themskitter away in fear. ![]()
Fred, I think the NPC attack chances also have to do with the faction you have with/against them.
I am -5000 faction with swoops and they attack me as soon as they show up on my radar. I have +5000 desert demon faction (i think thats what it is) and they dont do a thing to me. I can walk right past them and they dont care.
I kill a lot of swoops on Corellia since it is my home and eveytime you kill one you get -swoop faction and +desert something faction up to +/- 5000.
I am not on Tatooine a whole lot so I could have just been lucky with the desert faction reds.
