I think it would be nice to get xp on a successful forage. I equate this skill to sampling. Artisans get xp AND a resource when they harvest. As a forager, we just get a piece of food. It would be nice I think. You know, give us something to do while we camp.

I like the idea of areas of land having finite amounts of food to forage for. This keeps people from setting up macros.
