Thread: Ranger/Bounty Hunter...anyone playing one?
i have changed my mind about what profession i was going to choose about 10 times by now. so i took alot of skills in most all of them. but i think this is what i decided on.
is anyone playing on of these characters yet? and if so, could you give me some pros/cons to playing one?
i think it could be really cool, the ranger skills would help tremendously in finding your "mark" as a BH, and the ability to build camps and make traps as a BH could be quite effective as well. also the BH fighting skills would help a ranger in PvP.
i think this could be a quite powerful combination.
lets hear your thoughts.
Here is what I think you'd do if you wanted to be a Ranger/BH
Master Scout
Master Marksman
Master Ranger
Then for Bounty Hunter...
Take up to Investigation 4
Take up to Level 3 in your preferred weapon
That'll make you self sufficient in the wild, AND you'll have the ability to track down perps and have a few really good kill shots with your weapon.
Well, I am an expert bounty hunter, creature handler, and novice ranger. I qualify for all the first level skills, and probably most 2nd level...but none look to compelling to take. I might take some as soon as I hit the scouting and wilderness XP cap. My scout XP is up at something absurd like 100k I think, maybe higher. What are the skills that would help a ranger in PVP? It's been a while since I looked at the profession real hard, so I may have forgotten about something.
Well I am going for Master BH, and I am planning on using the rest of my points on Ranger skills. First I have to decide what skills in the ranger tree I am gonna take up! Any suggestions as to the most useful ones?

im going the mBH/ranger route
train the Frontiering (camps) to 4, and then wayfaring (camo/terrain negotiation) to 3
mask scent will work alot better running around Lok and endor and all those nasty planets, plus i move faster while prone which can be very useful. camps heal you faster, and make you to be more group friendly
thanks for all the tips. i was thinking that the ranger skills were going to be somewhat limited with BH. i really wanted them for camps and wayfaring.
I plan on doing something similar (and I typically change my mind on what I want to do every night). Either master BH or ranger, then take 1 skill up to 4 and another to 3 of the non-mastered class. If I master ranger I'd take BH pistol to IV and BH carbine to III. If I master BH I'd take wayfaring to III and frontiering to IV. Tonight I'm leaning towards mastering ranger. I'd have the weapons skills from BH and would still be able to take the missions. LLC sounds completely broken anyways, and Investigations just makes missions longer and harder and with less of a profit. Of course I'd have plenty of time to decide once I'm working my way up each profession, as I'm still working on mastering marksman now.
I've heard about conceal from the beta days, and how it will most likely show up again under wayfaring. Does that hide you from anybody, or just NPCs?
And everything but BF heals while in a camp, correct? And the bigger the camp the faster your rate of healing?

Yes and yes.
I play a Master Scout / Master Marksmen / Novice Ranger / Novice Bounty Hunter / Noive Rifleman / Noice Medic. I have been working on my Master Ranger since the launch of Kettemoor. I have experimented with Novice Rifleman having gained two levels of Sniper before realising that it just was not going to work the way I wanted. My final skills will see me as a Master Ranger / Noivce Bounty Hunter with the complete skill tree for Pistol and upto Carbine III. I have been surrendering Medical and Rifleman skills as I progress up the Bounty Hunter skill tree. I am currently just short 1 skill from Master Ranger - Frontiering IV, which I have about 25K into.
Now, since I have been playing in PvP situations, I have noticed 3 things that you might want to consider: 1. damage per second determines the winner in any straight out confrontation. 2. No one moves faster over hilly terrain than Master Rangers, second closest is Wayfairer. 3. Red dots indicate aggressive creatures, so getting into the wilds is a Benefit to Rangers. So, with these three things, I have began hunting Rebels in the wilds around major Rebel cities like Anchorhead. Why? simply because there are a lot of aggressives to get lost in. I move quickly across the terrain. Finally, because MOST PvPers are caught unaware by a red dot near a layer that Headshots them to incapacitation. Alas, however, if I was unable to deal with a small group of playerrather quickly found myself lacking in hold out fights. So began looking at how to shore up my deficiencies as a Master Ranger / PvPer. The solution became rather obivous.
As a Bounty Hunter, I have obtained two weapons that have increased my damage per second (dps) beyond lethal. I have a scatter pistol which is rated at 83 points and an EE3 carbine which is at a 101 points. Both of these weapons are capable of striking for 900 points, with a consistant 400 points average. Now, couple that with the Dizzy or Knockdown effects and a few suppression shots and I have pinned down my BH Marks for several seconds, allowing me even more shots at finishing the Mark. Also, most BH marks have between 8K and 14K HAMs, learning to effectively deal with this scale of damage has allowed me to macro some pretty effective special move combinations in which I can deal out nearly 2K worth of damage in under 3 shots. Now, show me the spice head that can stand up to that.
Recently, I have been asked for training from a lot of Novice Bounty Hunters taking the Wayfairing tree of Ranger. Either way you go a Master BH / Novice Ranger or Master Ranger / Novice BH makes for a mean opponent.
Thanks for the info Wargun. What did you not like about the rifleman tree compared to BH. Were you reasons PvP or PvE?
Right now the two builds I"m looking at are master ranger/BH pistol IV carbine III, or master ranger/master rifleman/novice CH (for a tank).
