Thread: camping module inspiration
S I was looking over the camp modules and I realised that there was a feature that might be includable purely as a "feature" it's also something that occurred to me as I was knee deep in the wilderness miles away from everyone. It was that if I’m point man, I need a way to help people get to me and know where I am and while we wait for people to turn up we’d want a place to eat food, stim up and get our selves in order.
How I envisage this module working is that when the camp is placed down you log into the camp control panel like normal but have an option to invite people (like you would in a g-mail) and in doing so all those people are sent:
1: a waypoint of the camp
2: an invite to a private chat room.
Further to that, the camp would advertise it’s self on the planetary map while it was up. And would be selectable as a viable local shuttle port destination but at an increased cost multiplier for the ticket (say 5x – 10x cost ? ~ 1-2 grand)
I realise that this has already been included part way with the faction module and the shuttle transponder, but I think this is a feature that should be added purely for utility purpose
I'd say it should be a ranger creatable module, as if it increases the chance of people getting together then it can only be a good thing
The other thing I though about was reducing the check range for mask scent normally the check takes place at 45-50m (lag depending it would seem) if the camo module or mask scent module included these benifts then it brings the concept of a "hunting blind" style camp really into focus, allowing all types of people to get closer to the target before running the risk of detection (ie : exactly what hunting blinds do)
I dislike the idea of shuttles being able to land at camps. The idea of it purely as a quick-return means is good, as described in the shuttle-beacon feature, but using a camp as an actual shuttleport is.. No, I'm against this idea.
I will do the shortest reply first.
Anything with shuttle and camps. No. Premise is good. Bad idea. Then we will get bugged by the ignorant few with, "Hey Ranger, do you have that camp with the shuttle port thingy in it?".
That idea would make us more popular, and useful, but we would only be there for that reason. Then I would have to charge them to use it.
The transponder sending waypoints to your hunting party, or people wanting to find you. BRILLIANT!!!! That has go to be one of the best idea's I have heard for a camp. Make a HTFB last for an hour or so and be seen on the map. That is genius. The entertainers can have there waypoints on the map if they are in a cantina, and they are AFK anyway.
On that note, you can just send them your coords and the just have to type /waypoint xxx yyy. It takes a few seconds to do,but saves the devs hours of troubleshooting
