im pretty new to the ranger proffesion..i got tired of PvP and am looking to broaden my horizons. i had a few questions about the tracking ability. The first is When u use track does it pickup entities inside buildings/structures. THe second is the direction (northeast, south..etc.)that it gives you..is that relative to the direction u are facing at that time or the direction on the overall planatery map. thanks for the info..im having a blast.

I've seen it pick up mobs and NPCs inside structures.

And the direction is based on the cardinal directions. If something is north, then you turn north and head towards it. And north, of course, is what your Radar shows it to be

"And north, of course, is what your Radar shows it to be"

North being the "Arrow" point on the Radar window.

Hah, no kidding about that little Radar direction. I had lead a group on a Krayt hunt and we separated, I was like 200m North. They all went: "Waypoint?" I was like, North dammit, the big blue arrow. heh.. So yeah, tracking works when you're in a good spawn range.

Otherwise, a little sketchy.

Orange arrow on my screen, not blue.

Anyhow, my experience on tracking people who are inside buildings is this: If they recently entered the building, they will show on the radar and can be tracked. After a while, the system will note that the player is indoors, and will remove the dot from the radar unless you are inside with them. When the dot has been removed from the radar (whether or not you are within range of it) you cannot track that player.

Keep in mind that I refer only to player buildings. Buildings in pre-gen cities do not hide radar dots, and as such, the players within can be tracked by Rangers without. I find this a useful tactic for scanning cities to see if a given faction enemy or groupis still around. It only helps if you know their names, of course, but it's lead to me doing scouting operations for when my guild responds to Overt Imperial incursions, and we want an idea of where the enemy is concentrated without engaging them yet.
