first off i'm a hologrinder on this whole ranger thing, and i can't express my feelings enough on the sheer drag that the camping xp does for the profession, not that it's something that will take forever ( i grinded my camping tree in 2 days) it's that it's just so incredibly boring (i passed out camping several times). but on the brighter side of things i found a way to help get through the camping grind a bit faster.
steps as follows:
before setting up any camps, be shure you have alot of materials for building mass amounts of camps
pitch a camp, the best one you can.
get a friend to join you if possible, if not no biggie, as your camps progress in size and appearance you will attract alot of people out of sheer curoisity.
remember to disband your camps every 15 min as you do not accru any more exp for leaving the camp up any longer than that, and if it does it's an extremley minor amount.
you will notice, if you pay attention, you get a minor amount of camping exp for crafting camps, the amount varies depending on the type of camp you are crafting. so while in the camp, craft as many camp kits as you can, be shure to have enough made for after the next step. FYI crafting traps gives you no expin anyway, don't bother to grind those.
lastly, after you have crafted a fair amount of camp kits, turn on the practice modein your crafting process, you will continue to loose materials, but no longer will a prototype object be created, but on the plus side you get a 10% boost in your gained experience per camp kit crafted in this mode (i assume this works for all crafting, definately works for camp crafting.), making the camping process go as fast as the game will possibly let you.
i hope this helps alot of people out.
oh btw i was reading a bunch of posts and they "inspired" me, i've found the path of the ranger (although be it a little too late), i had to read between the lines of the posts, but it finally hit me like a ton of bricks, i'll just say this....... explore.
on the whole i find the ranger a bit interesting in it's abilities, some have perks, like tracking to find beasties, while others do virtually nothing as of yet, like traps, shure would be nice to use them on humanoid npc's, hell even pvp would be awsome, they are after all non-lethal, limiting them they way they are seems daft to me. I read the new proposed changes which would totally improve the ranger as a whole, I guess it's the support function of the role that i dislike. But for all you rangers out there that chose to be a ranger i tip my hat to you, you got some integrity to attain this class and choose to stick it out. unlike you i will probably be surrendering it the second after i attain master ranger.

I actually think it will be a fine profession when it's finished.

Huh? That's new, isn't it? I thought I remembered making gobs and gobs of traps as a novice scout and never got a single survival XP point. I mean, I didn't even start trying to make camps until I had 3 levels of trapping, and I had NO survival skill.

You're right!!! Making traps gives survival XP!!!
I just got 12 points for making a wire mesh trap. I've enver sitting in one of my worthless camps EVER again!

And that was the most self gratifying post I have ever read. In fact that was probably the funniest post, by far. Want to be part of the norm, and hologrind like the rest. Hopefully you make it before the Jedi cap. Then what will you do?
I myself have read the other forums. When I see people crying about why can't I do this, why can't I do that, this lame, blah, blah. It makes me laugh. Because the same kind of posts pop up all the time, right after another, with no thought on how to fix anything, and by far the most "I'm Leaving....." posts.
If all there is to do is Master the professions to do this Jedi thing, then Master Ranger should not be included in that list. Plus you better hope that they don't fix this profession before you make Jedi. Because when they do make our profession better, Jedi Initiates all over will asking us for the help to keep them safe.
But I don't think I will worry about that. You will probably won't play as a Jedi much, because you might not be able to AFK or Macro your way to Master. And its easy to tell that you will do that. Good post at the beginning, then bashing at the end.
Go play KOTR. You don't have to grind to be a Jedi there.

I am glad to hear that there are aspiring rangers out there that are intriqued about the profession. I personally do not want to grind for jedi, and hearing some comments from master rangers, I think the profession as alot of room for improvement, but as it is, I think it is great. the best is thing is to be able to enjoy a good hunt with a group of players, and be able to contribute with areatrack, specialized camps, camos, etc... Hope the developers will revamp the profession just like what they did for chefs... But so far so good.

to be honest, i have no idea why crafting traps would give you survival exp..
while i was making traps i was watching the trapping exp, and it did not move at all.
you'd think that crafting traps would give you trapping exp, not survival exp, as they do nothing to help you survive, as they are non-lethal..
but whatever..
i'll be glad to leave you rangers to do your lame ranger thing.. 2 more blocks and i'll never be returning to these self absorbed, i'm a l33t ranger, boards.
