Hello fellow rangers!

This might be my first post in these forums, but I've been reading them for a couple months now, and I'm glad I can be part of this community. You guys are a great! =)

As I advance thru the Ranger line (kinda slowly it seems, 3 weeks for 0-3-3-1... It's been a blast, however) I've been getting more and more animal resources, and everybody seems to agree that my best money-making tactic is to collect the best resources available.

Here comes my question tho... Some of my ranger friends talk about "resource shifts" and some of the posts here talk about the "inavailability"of certain resources on some planets/servers...

I'm kinda curious... What is a resource shift? How do you know if you can find one of the resources in your server or not? How does the whole quality thing in the materials work? I've read a very nice guide about Ranger resource pricing, but I can't seem to find answers to these questions...

Any help you guys can hand me will be much appreciated!

It's very simple....check on the Galaxy Trade Forums here in the swg official forums....usually the MDocs/BioEs/CMs and many other organics dependant professsions will advertise their buying prices for very specific products (currently on Bloodfin they are paying 40-50cpu for Naboo Herb meat). When you see somebody offering a good amount for your server, do your duty and hunt! The price you charge should be whatever the market will bear.

To determine what critters give what kind of resources, head to www.swgcreatures.com and search for it.

Hope this helps, good luck!

oops..Resource shifts are what the dev's put in to assure there isn't a surplus of uber products. As in sometimes there will be good resources to gather, and other times it will lag. Just keeps people from getting too comfortable i suppose...

All resources, be they mineral, gas, water, chemical, floral, solar, wind, egg,or creature, meat, hide, bone, or milk, 'spawn' on a planet or planets for a certain period of time, and then they are gone forever.

You may notice that you are out harvesting animal meat, and suddenly it no longer stacks with what you had before...'examine' it for its new name and stats...everytime a resource shifts, it will have a new name and new stats, or its possible, as in the case of some minerals and gasses, they not show up at all for a time.

Using survey tools is easy to tell when a particular resource is gone...its name will be replaced by the new one, if its class is available...but for creature resources, you simply have to go out and harvest some manually to see if/when they have changed...generally, its safe to give it a week (seven days)...

Different professions rely on different resources, but in a ranger's case, you'll do well to give meats and milks to chefs, doctors and bio-engineers, and hide and bone to armorsmiths...ask around your area for who needs what...also, different professions also require different stats on some things...Its alot of information, but you'll pick it up as you play. You may also want to specialize, like I do, and only harvest particular kinds of resources and find yourself a niche market.

"Resource Shifts"

I see another FAQ entry arising from this.

Resource Shift:

  • Resources are specific to a server

  • When a new resource appears on the server, it is given a set duration for which it will be available for harvesting.

  • This timer is usually between 1 to 2 weeks. Though resources have been known to last less than a day, or greater than 3 weeks on occasion.

  • When the duration of the resource is complete, a new resource with different quality attributes takes its place and the process repeats with a new duration.

  • Hide / Meat / Bone / Eggs / Milk are all subject to these "resource shifts" and will periodically be replaced with different quality resources

  • This changeover in quality allows professional miners and hunters to play the resource market, by hording rare high quality resources and hiking up the price during alow quality shift.
