I've been rifleman ever since I started playing.(just that "sniper" concept I guess.) And to everyone else I'm thought of as a FOTM, (until they realize I'm ranger too lol). But I've been giving serious thought to dropping rifle and trying pistol. Here are my reasons:

1) Closer range means faster harvesting, and not killing a wave, running up 60m, running back 60m, killing a wave, etc etc

2) I still have hope for traps. I would LOVE to see useful traps. So I'd be willing to go to pistol now for that.

Why I'm considering staying:

1) concealshot. god I love it. So useful for faction farming enemy detatchment HQ's lol. And useful for a lot of other reasons.

2) Rifleman is just fun, and I don't have to be gimped for a couple weeks if I drop it.

3) It just seems better to me?

STay a rifleman.... You can still use your traps at 50m and when you get the area effect attacks You dont have to worry that much about decay timers. I would kill 5 pickets at the same time and had plenty of time to harvest...

Pistoleers comments? JBmat? Others?

I chose rifle purely for RP purposes, I haven't even thought of the consequences of my choice as far as game mechanics goes. The way I see it, pistols are for thieves and smugglers who need to conceal their weapon, marines or police who must fight in confined spaces, and faux-British officers who wouldn't feel proper sitting down for tea with a rifle slung over their shoulder, but need to have a weapon nonetheless. The only reason I'd see myself carrying one is as a sidearm; a backup weapon for use in a pinch... and I'd rather rely on my trusty survival knife, because I'm hard-core.

From my understanding, unharvested corpses stick around for abtou 10 min or so... why are you having trouble geting to them?

I'm rifle too..and i have no problems.

Work and worse, surf control.... darn IT rat is gonna make me figure my own way around it too.

Anyhow -

Reason I went Pistols was the range issue, both PvE and PvP. Few riflemen truly know how to use their rifles effectively, that is from range. Those that do, prosper. Those that don't... visit the cloner often. Too many riflemen run up to me in PvE, three kinds of dumb.

Initially, I went Master Marksman. At the time carbines were broke, broken and busted. Now they are getting better, but as I have always personally disliked carbines, I stay away from them. Rifles were ok, but too many animals charge you. You need to get warning shot in ranged support to keep the animals at range. Oops, skill points. Actually figured out this and that and saw if I went Pistols I could Master three professions and still have enough for novice medic.

Given the choice, the way weapons are now, I still would go pistoleer, as you have enough ranged (64m) hits to count and your close quarters battle is outstanding. The dodges are great too.

What it boils down to, what is the most fun for you?

I chose rifles for two reasons.

1. It makes me feel like a typical Ranger.

2. What is a Wookie without a Bowcaster? I mean cmon. No Wookie should be without one.

But a profession I've really been tempted by lately has been the Pikemen profession. I think a Lizard, I mean Trandoshan, Pikeman/Ranger would be really effective.

I'm doing Pikeman/Ranger right now and really enjoying it

I was a master pistoleer too. and I had a great time with them

1) The range with firing pistols is better, trap - shoot - shoot harvest.
2) The faster rate of fire was amazing, it was like having a personal mini-gun wasting away any critter that came up to me.
3) The dodges were great
4) Not much in melee defense, but to make up for it, with terrain navigation I would run circles around most people and creatures.
5) Pistoleers rely in my opinion on finesse, and not spamming specials, I tried to take the time to wither the creature down, then hit them with a few well timed specials
6) The tactics in PvP were really fun, kiting, specials, the occasional knockdown and I really enjoy close ranged fighting as well. I guess thats why i naturally transitioned into tkm

I had a great time being a pistoleer. In time I may return, but im gonna try pikeman and rifleman before i come back to pistoleer if i decide to do that.

even when i was in the military i prefered my sidearm for some reason. Don't get me wrong, an M-16 is something to fear, but give a man a pistol at close range and you're gonna get whipped......hard.

I guess the reason i like Pistol so much is for the pistol whip...just like JB said, many riflemen run right up to you, and one of the fun things to do is pop em right in the jaw and watch their legs turn to jello, and to pop them a few times with choice specialsas they scramble to type /stand.

The closer range also gives you the advantage of harvesting quickly, but you have to remember, being a rifleman, you're not oftenly in the thick of it. I can't tell you how many times i couldn't target the right thing because of so many critters swarming my screen. (ususally pretty hard to target around pikets, and the like). So in general it's all about what your playing style is. If you prefer to hit from a safe distance, and pop them when they don't see it coming, stick with the rifle. BUT, if you like getting into the thick of things and giving a good smackdown at close range, then by all means get the pistol.
