Hi there,

I'm grinding upto Master Ranger (currently 1/1/4/3), and I'm developing my techniques, I would like some advice.

For now, I'm finding myself working for Bio-Engineers and Armoursmiths. A kind of one-wookiee harvesting machine

I am also grinding to master rifleman (1/1/1/1 so far), I prefare the sniping approach. Hit my quarry before they know I'm there. With this technique, it makes sense for me to use a harvesting droid. At the moment I have an R2 scout droid, it fights, fires traps and harvest (but I can harvest more thanhe can now).

However, when I'm on "destroy the lair" type missions (which can be a quick way to guide you to the type of creature you want), I find I have a problem. I need to 'tickle' the lair to get more creatures out. In my experience so far, even if I use /concealshot the creatures go straight for me once I fire on the lair, thus removing the advantage of being a rifleman as I have to use /pointblankshot1 spam, and even stim myself to the hilt sometimes. My solution to this so far (for when I hunt alone), as to been to use my R3 as a tank. I tell it to attack the lair, then I snipe off anything that attacks it. However I'm not happy with this for two reasons: 1) It costs me a lot in droid repair kits, and 2) It removes the option of usinga harvesting droid.

(before anyone says anything, I can get batteries very cheaply, so I dont' regard this as a signfiicant cost. If I'm really stuck I can craft my own!).

As I progress with my rifle skills will this become less of a problem or do you always need some form of tank?

I'm ranger/swords, I tank for myself. So i can't answer that. However, I may be able to help with your technique. For mission spawns, they will spawn 3 times- the initial mobs, then 2 more spawns, equal to the initial spawn. Never start on the lair; kill the creatures, then hit the lair once, then peace. The lair will then spawn the second batch, of equal number to the initial number of creatures. Kill the creatures, then attack the lair again. Take it to roughly 50%, then peace again. It will spawn again, so kill this set of critters, and finish off the lair.

Be aware, depending on the lair and the initial creatures, it may or may not pop a boss after the second spawn, near the end of the lair's "health". It varies with each creature, you'll learn with experience.

Hope this helps.

  1. Take out first wave

  2. Hit lair once

  3. Wait for spawn

  4. Take out second wave

  5. Hit lair down to just above half way, half way if you have high dps

  6. Wait for last spawn

  7. Take out third spawn

  8. Waste lair until dead or boss spawn

The trick to not getting the mob to aggro you on spawning from a nest u just shot is:-

Fire at 64m from the nest, use a high damage shot and immediatly walk away from the nest peaceing. If u do this 90% of the time the spawn appeares out of combat range to you and will not aggro.

Thanks everyone for the great replies.

I'll give it a try later today as soon as real life stops pestering me

Take out the first spawn.

Hit once, /peace, wait. Sometimes a new spawn will start right away, sometimes it'll take me a few more hits. There's usually a sort of noticeable amount of damage done to the lair when the next spawn starts, so be sure to /peace really quickly.

The third spawn happens around 60% or 66% (I can never remember) lair integrity. Again, look for the sudden jump in damage, usually accompanied by an explosion. Apparently cu pas produce high amounts of methane in their lairs?

After that wave the lair will be empty if it's a mission. If you do this to a non-mission lair sometimes you get extra animals in the end -- venomous spider queens, etc.
