What is the max distance tracker can track something or somebody?

Does the Skill level make any difference?

Yes skill does make a difference. and for me at Master I can track two targets showing at oppositepoints of the compass for about a Kilometer.

1k? I'm a master ranger myself, and I am pretty sure that the maximum tracking radius is about 450-500m around you.

And for you math challenged -

It is one kilometer, 1000 meters, in a circle around you. The radius of the circle is 500m. You can "see" someone 500 m north, someone 500 m south of you.

That is one hell of a lot of territory.

The word your looking for is a Diameter , so we area track a circle with a Diameter of 1000m centered on the ranger.

it's a good thing I'm dumb then. I think that the dumber you are, the better areatrack works. If I don't know how to calculate the true area of a cirlcle, I can assume that my areatrack actually covers a bajillion square meters...just that there are no other creatures withing that bajillion meters. If creatures turn out to be out there about 700 meters, then I say the spawn system did it.

Thus, my areatrack works up to a 2k radius, for an approximate area of about a bajillion square meteres.

by the way...a 500 meter area is HUGE. just imagine being able to determine if a deer was within a HUNDRED meters by the tracks. I could tell you if they were a day or two old...or much older, but I couldn't tell you if it had gone 30 feet into the woods or 30 miles in the past two days. In game terms 500m was HUGE back before speeders. Even now, it's DAMN good. it is our one utterly unique skill.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

and if you happen to be a math geek... like me, area track at master ranger covers 785,398 square meters in a circle around you.

(vertical terrain such as a mountain is counted as horizontal and shortens the tracking range)
