Thread: Are We Still Interesting In Getting /track?
Are We Still Interesting In Getting /track? yes
A Few Designs: (we did go over this once but I'm too damn lazy to look for it)
- While I'm not dead set against it, I'd rather not have a waypoint. Footy prints would be cool, or settle for that ribbon thing you see in the /find command... but that gets you closer and might not spawn a lair the first time.
- What you generate should be level dependant. Let's not have "Uberman" template that happens to have bought Novice Scout making Enraged Rancor Bulls and Gorax, shall we?
- No, the BH can't have this too.
- Or the Jedi.

Currently, the /areatrack command is a great boon to the Ranger profession. Sadly, this skill is easily circumvented. /areatrack brings up a menu prompting you to choose what type of MOB you would like to track. The choices are Animal (critters), People (NPCs), and Players (PCs). This skill is limited in its use due to the current spawning system. /areatrack can only track things that have spawned (in the max 500m radius). Under the current spawning system, /areatrack can make it hard to track any animals, and physical searches can be difficult to spot animals (more people = more spawns but also means fewer spawns). SInce the inception of vehicles and due the limitations of /areatrack, searching by vehicle is the norm when looking for a specific critter.
This brings us to the proposal. Rangers were teased in August 2003 with the following statement from Holocron:
/track - Higher up the Tracking tree, the Ranger will earn the /track command. The /track command will let the Ranger specify a specific creature he wants to find. Hunting for a Veermok? If you are in a region where Veermok live, you can /track for one. Tracking a creature will lead the player on a small mission to find a creature in the area (or in the case of a critical success or failure...an unexpected surprise). Whereas scanarea checks for already existing mobs in the area, /track can be used even if a Veermok lair (or whatever creature you want to find) isn't nearby. Note: /scanarea was renamed /areatrack when it was implemented.
Rangers would like to see this skill implemented. The short of it is we would like to be able to spawn either lairs, or wild herds (no associated lair) of the critter of our choice. This skill would, of course, have the same zone rules as normal spawning (i.e. we can't spawn a Swamp Humbaba outside of the Agrilat Swamp zone).
Now for the tricky part.Rangers would also like to be able to spawn the 'rare' critters (Krayts, Peko Peko Albatross, etc.)at Master Ranger. This would possibly need to be balanced with a timer of some sort (along the lines of one Krayt per Ranger per day). This would make us a highly sought after profession both in terms of other players becoming Rangers and other professions utilizing our services.
