Hey guys I'm back again and wanted to through in a bit of a update.

Ranger I'm at 1-1-4-2

I must say I love the fact that I run up hills faster then people on swoops, and that I had a guild friend that was paying 101cpu for avian meat. I got him 20k in about a day.

Anyways now to the point of this thread. I almost have rifleman about done, and I'm to the point of where I cant stand it. Once I master it I'm looking at either Fencer or TKM. I've heard alot of people mention that TKM has a nice background for RP and fits with ranger nicely. Fencer I dont know alot about... all I hear it use for is PvP.

More then likely I will end up trying both, but the thing is I would kinda like other Rangers opinions on what TKM and Fencer give when mixed with ranger. I've tired to read the fencer/tkm forums but it is tough when abuot 90% they have another melee prof mixed in as well.

In all honestly I want it to be fun(and I know I will have fun with either), but I still want to stay effective in PvE, and some PvP. When wondering around out in the wild I kinda want to be able to take on anything that I find if I think I can take it.

- take note I will have novice medic stim-b's, and from time to time I would love to take on NS and rancors when I'm all buffed

My first comment is to stay at master Rifleman for a bit. It is a completly different profession than non-master Rifleman. After that, I have no comments asI have never been a Fencer, so I can't compare it to TKM.

Funny, always thought the rifle fit with ranger better, RP wise. If you want to be a Fighter/Solder and a little survivalist on the side I could see it, but any skill point invested in Scout/Ranger is waisted in PvP templates, hands down.

Right now, RIfleman and TKM are the greatest hunters, I think TKM edges out slightly because of boosts and self-healing, although we have argued here that Rangers should have some toughness - hardinessand some kind of herbal healing knowledge.

Ranger is not a profession. It's a lifestyle.

Well, I can't tell you which way to go, but I have a WS/Fencer and a Ranger/TKM. Both have novice medic. And those the only combat classes for those chars.

Fencer is awsome if you are just running around armored and unbuffed (I know, who does this? ) which I do if I am just doing harvestor runs or surveying. If I get jumped by something that spawns on top of me (I know again, never happens ) I can pretty much take anything reasonable down on auto-attack, and maybe use 1-2 stims. fencer is fast, hard to hit, plus you get 2 damage types to choose from, kinetic and stun. However, the damage is alot lower than the other melee classes (but you will rarely miss and hit about 1/second).

The reason I chose TKM over Fencer for my Ranger was strictly for the ability to kill things even faster and to heal disease and poison in the field. You get hit ALOT more than a fencer will, but you have probably killedwhatever you are fightingbefore itbecomes dangerous. I can notrecall missing an attackwith my Ranger since I became TKM, and you attack very fast. However, you are stuck with only one type of damage, kinetic, which sometimes offset the higher damage you normally would be doing, and other times negates you even being there except to act as a meat shield for your group. (100% resists to kinetic, bah!).

And even though I prefer fencer over TKM and you get a 2nd damage type, it really stinks to get doc buffs and entertainer buffs, wait on the shuttle, tab out to look at forums, go get a drink, wait on the shuttle (are they still in the game, am I at the right place to catch it??? ), finally arrive to where you want to go hunt, get diseased and be able to do nothing about it.

Wow that was long. I guess just being able to meditate away poison, disease and wounds is what made me pick TK over Fencer for my Ranger.

Have you considered Pikeman?

I have not been one but I watched my spouse play it and man, he would sometimes be hidden by the piles of bodies. Those area attacks are amazing.

Calc, you just convinced me to finish the Rifleman grind. I've been at 3444 for the last three weeks.
