Thread: Lairs and their destruction

Hello,

As a ranger I am often taking lair destruction missions for cash and harvest. However the lair destruction is extremely slow as a pistoleer, and even using my CH animal does not speed it up much. Does anyone have tips or tricks to speed up its destruction? I watch TKMs destroy these things faster than I can kill the silly animals themselves.

Is it possible in the future to get a "lair destruction" bonus for rangers? Like double damage if we are destroying a lair -- due to our knowledge of lairs and their construction, we know their weak spots? Or perhaps a new trap that can be used to destroy a lair much more quickly (e.g. a bomb).

I also have a question for the general public -- how many of you search a lair prior to destruction? What do you do with the glow-jeez, butterflies, and eggs etc. that you get from it? Is anyone willing to pay for the things you have foraged from a lair? What are some crafted items that result from this?

Thanks

Aokista

One of the specials are very good on lairs, something like stopping shot or disarming shot or some such silliness... none of the ham-specific ones will damage them at all, however.

eggs can be collected and "stacked" like any other resource that we can harvest. Many people go on egg hunts and get over 2k of eggs. In stacks that high, there are a few proffessions that are williing to pay top dollar for them. Especially if you are thourough in you egg hunting and find a good planet, they often sell for more that the hide you have...but they are a pain to get. I rarely get eggs, and usually only "search lair" as an afterthought.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

Hi Fred,

/disarmingshot1 does double damage to lairs -- no idea why. But other things, such as /stoppingshot, also increase damage output (though slow down your shots, too, so a DPS calculation would be necessary. Anecdotally I found I was destroying lairs fastest without doing specials as my pistol speed was very fast at that point).

I was wondering in general, though, what strategies people had for lair destruction as I'm not particularly committed to pistoleer -- right now I am training up rifle since I am considering going rifleman instead.

Thanks

yep - use disarming shot 1 or 2 if you have it. If does a lot of damage to lairs. 2 is an area-effect shot if I remember correctly, so be careful with that...

You can use the glowzes, etc... in creature habitats, which artisans can craft. When you release the creatures from the habitat, the room will be filled briefly with flying moths or glowzees or whatever. It's actually a nice effect, but it doesn't last that long, and, aside from making your immediate environment more interesting for say, 30 seconds, you don't getany sort of immediate or appreciable advantage from making or using a creature habitat, so, as a consequence, no one crafts them, and as a side-effect there isn't really much of a market for our jars of glowzees, moths, etc... Also the bottles look cool in your shop, lining the shelves, like pickle jars...

Yep - a lair bonus for mission lairs would be nice -- it would speed things up a bit at the end of the mission. We wouldn't want it to apply to natural lairs though -- you actually want to damage these as slowly as possible so that the maximum number of critters will spawn.

I use a cheaper rifle for mine and flurry2 or SS2(unless there are mobs near I don't want to shoot). It seems to do ok but for the really, really high level (like Bull Rancor) but there is no real science to it other then your highest DPS special. I try to let all the critters out and not let them heal the lair (i. e., not be shooting it when the critters are out unless you are doing this for a reason). Each critter that "pops" out fron the "active" waves costs the lair hitpoints and can help you there.

When lairs are empty the damage will multiply normally anyway. But what you might want to look at is what gun your using to hit the lair. You dont want to use a DX2 or any decent gun to hit because its a waste. It has no armor and no protections. And remember stun damage doesnt affect lairs. So what i was doing was taking a combat SR or scout blaster that was cheap and just overcharge 1 (or 2 if your a master marksman) until the lair died. Yes pistol does take forever to kill things. But its a master of the damage per second math. You'll probaly find that the scout blaster or FWG5 will kill it faster then the DX2 or high end pistols.

Not sure if this will be of use, but you might want to look this over...

All professions seem to have a special that does extra damage to lairs, but many of them also have a weapon (presumably linked to damage type and AP) that is best for taking out lairs. It is just a matter of finding out what the best combo is...i.e. I don't have any notes on the combos I have found that work best.

Hi,

Thanks for the info everyone. Fred, I had not seen the lair guide, and I'm glad to know of it. Was trying to figure out why these banthas kept spawning on top of my head.

Aokista.
