Thread: Master Ranger worth it?

Ok here's my story...... i unlocked a few weeks ago. And i'm very broke. I never really had alot of money to begin with anyways. Now my options are to create a crafting prof on my main or something that will generate money.

Looking at the professions i thought ranger would be good. Rifleman and ranger so i can track and harvest meats/hides/bones in larger quantities than a scout and sell them. Would also give me contacts for buffers for my jedi, and if area track works well enough, i could even get in krayt groups and maybe get a pearl or 2.

Now my plan was master ranger/rifleman rest in medic. But looking over it Is master ranger worth it? I have my stats (human) set for rifleman and i have power boost at the moment and would love to keep it if i can. Camps and camo kits, and traps aren't worth the points. And all i really want is harvesting and tracking.. so are the differences in master ranger to tracking4 huge? I'm already 0020. Kinda like the idea of a ranger. Any thoughts?

All right, but apart from the sanitation droids, bionic limbs, hyper-drive, moisture vaporators, galactic order, abolisment of slavery, star charts, the compact and efficient central government and interplanetary free trade, what has the Empire ever done?"

honestly, for what you want to do, go to tracking IV and thats it. The harvesting benefits are not quantitatively better at master ranger, and you will be able to do what you have described what you want to do.

Plus, grab some veghash and you will be able to harvest a little more when you do.

hope this helps

Right now Master Ranger isnt all that different from just tracking 4 but hopefully in 2 or so omnths We will have our turn at the revamp and Master Ranger might be worth more then its title

I agree with Agon: don't bother Mastering.

Tracking not only gives you the ability to, well, track It also provides the boost to the amount of resources you Harvest from a harvest.

The only reason I'd recommend Wayfaring is because of the Terrain Negotiation +mod. This won't make you run faster, but it will make you crawl faster.

Otherwise, Ranger Camo Kits, Camps and Traps won't really provide much in the way of benefit to you.

But in terms of money making in general, I'd recommend getting into resource or even energy sales. You'd need to do organics first to be able to afford the Solar arrays and then the Fusion ones, but the beauty of this is that you can have your fusion generators going all week while you are out hunting resources.

I do have 3 fusion gens i've managed to hold on to in the past. Back when i was mastering architect. I just hated surveying for spots..... but i suppose i can get novice artisan and just check once in awhile when i'm hunting.

Thanks for the info

Ranger isn't really a money-making proffession. But if you decide to go for it, just go for tracking.

Long as you follow the spawns of meat, you will make a lot of money. You just have to work very hard at it to gather large quanities fast..heh.

like the tile says, i'm here to ask the expertes if it is worth getting Master Ranger? I am going master swordsman, with ranger 0,0,4,0. And i am exlusivly pve. Is the extra +10 Skill mod worth it? or would you sugest Spending the skill points on better defences?

Well, I would honestly suggest better defenses or even better offense (though, what's better offense than a Swordsman?). You can make up that +10 by being a leezard LD, or using veghash (harvesting mod food).

If you would only be mastering justfor the +10 harvesting bonus, then I would say no. Not that I want to discourage prospective masters, but it doesn't sound like you would be mastering for the right reasons.

Don't forget that there are other benefits to being a master ranger. On the practical side, you will have a much better chance of sticking traps, which could provide the benefits you seek defensively. Camo is also good for hunting in a group with friends that seems to pull every aggro down on you.

And of course, there's the HTFB. It won't stop the rain, but it will level a mountain top and it is definitely a sight to see!

Happy hunting to you.

I'm a master Ranger/swordsman and I love it. I am also exclusively PVE and so far I love it!. I am also a trandosian so I do get a bonus. :-) I would say Yes! it's worth it!

Another Ranger/Swordsman here. It really depends on what you're about. I have not yet Mastered Ranger, but from the Swordsman standpoint, something that is very appealing is having Master Brawler as well. Master Brawler gets you +5 two handed speed, Intimidate2, Warcry2, Two-handed lunge 2 all attractive points to that path. Say you want the Melee speed line in the Force Sensitivitiy skills, you could still retain Ranger 0-2-4-0 along with Master Scout, Brawler, and Swordsman.

Master Ranger does offer some additional melee and ranged defense, and an interesting tag. Of course, the speed was was the most attactive element from Master Brawler for me (although Intimidate2 is right there as well), and with the Force Sensitivity skills offering another avenue at that speed. This may very well change if in the combat balance, Ranger gets some love for the PvE folk, particularly in dealing with creatures, both from ranged AND melee standpoints.

As it stands though, the Swordsman has little to fear on his own in the wilds without buffs, and even with buffs the real nasties are NPCs, not creatures.

As the game currently stands, the only reason to master ranger is out of love for the profession. Otherwise, if you only want to be a professional hunter, then just take the tracking branch.
