Thread: Now I Remember Why I Avoid Cities.

I've been playing since launch and been more of a lurker then a poster on these boards. I know most of us like to avoid cities and stay out in the wild. I recently took a break from the game and in the last two weeks I have slowly been working a new character up to ranger. Anyways, I went to Mos Eisley for some healing and training. I found a doctor sitting outside the spaceport with his droid dealing out buffs and heals even though the med center is literally 20m away. I chose to go to the med center instead to get healed. I like to reward those who play the game as it should be not how it works. Then I went to the cantina to heal my battle fatigue and get training from a hunter that was there. From outside I noticed that there was an afk entertainer who was spamming for tips. There were plenty of people there so I figured there should be at least one live entertainer. Besides, I still needed the training. So I opened the door and stepped inside. At the very moment that I crossed the threshold into the cantina my computer froze up and closed galaxies. These are just a couple of reasons why I like ranger and being away from the cities.

I understand that it's very hard to level musician or dancer without going AFK for much of the time--very hard and utterly boring to do it while all live. I know that if I were grinding it, you can bet I'd be AFK half the time, because there is nothing to do while dancing!

If you are spamming for tips, though, you are no better than a beggar IMO. Yes, I know that's how you make your living, but reminding me to give you money is like dancing on a street corner and yelling, "You looked at me, you have to pay me now!"

When I hit the really busy cantinas, I'll look for someone who's not spamming for tips. I'll often go into the back corners away from the lag, and watch someone there, and tip them, AFK or not. Or, I'll simply say, "Is anyone who's dancing *not* AFK?" First person to answer gets my business. And a tip.

I have tried dancer out and I do know how boring it can be to level but the mix of the dancer being afk and spamming for tips just really got to me.

Don't know what the Eisley med centre on SS is like of an evening, but Bria? Heck, it's like a circus in there. So many tumblers. Last thing you want to do is go in there with some wounds as you'll interupt the grinders from their 'intense study'. Course, that's assuming the noise of the animals ddn't drive you off. Kaadu mounts backflipping so their handlers take damage which the would be medics can then heal...

Funny you should say about an entertainer spamming outside the starport. At first I thought you must have been on Bria too, lol. There was a young girl there the past couple of days, just tootling away. Asked her why she wasn't in the cantina and, when she came back from being afk got an earful of abuse. So to speak. Just wanted to check if she realised that all she was getting was xp, and a lower rate than if she was in a group. No healing. Peh. Well, that was somebody else not getting a tip.

Of course, now Eisley is THE beginner town (might change back to the old 4 planet/three city system one day, who knows) so you do get a lot more novices working at grinding through as much of their starter professions as possible. I'd go to player towns but I can rarely find a medic in a health centre nor an entertainer in a cantina there. Plus some towns make you as welcome as a fart in a spacesuit. "This is a local shop, for local people... you're not..local, are you??"

We either need CSR's working like city militia to move the grinders out of the public areas, some sort of aggressive NPC that hassles people using key phrases, or we just got to take a deep breath, dive into town, do our business and get back out as fast as we can.

Different folk want to play the game in different ways. I have an entertainer on one server, rarely if ever has been AFK, rarely gets tips, tho when she does they tend to be good ones from folk that she's got into conversation with. Oddly enough, rangers and doctors are her best punters. I've helped a friend or two get through medic by tumbling, but only in the privacy of my own home or camp. All you need is a medic droid and it gives us the chance to catch up on news, swap tales, etc.

Anyhows, back to our friend spamming for tips. Repeated spamming of any sort is a pain in the butt. You could, I guess, send a polite tell saying they were more like to get a tip if they were quiet or made eye contact with the customers, chatted, y'know? Depending on the reply they're going on the tip list or the ignore list. Walking in and demanding to know whose not AFK is a bit rude, and, from the other side of the fence, is more likely to get you stuck on ignore. Whaddaya think the entertainers are? performing dogs? "Hey, bark for the man, c'mon bark..."

Oh aye, and back in Eisley, I love this one....

"SQUILL HUNT STARTING OUTSIDE THE CANTINA!!! SQUILL HUNT STARTING OUTSIDE THE CANTINA!!! SQUILL HUNT STARTING OUTSIDE THE CANTINA!!! SQUILL HUNT STARTING OUTSIDE THE CANTINA!!! SQUILL HUNT STARTING OUTSIDE THE CANTINA!!! SQUILL HUNT STARTING OUTSIDE THE CANTINA!!! SQUILL HUNT STARTING OUTSIDE THE CANTINA!!! SQUILL HUNT STARTING OUTSIDE THE CANTINA!!! SQUILL HUNT STARTING OUTSIDE THE CANTINA!!!

followed by an unsolicited /invite and "WHYD U TRUN DOWN OUR INIVTE? YOOR A HUNTER?"

Maybe he should have taken up being an entertainer, cos am damn sure I'd not want to get out on a hunt with that...

As much as the Republican in me disagrees with more CSR involvement...the Ranger in me totally aggrees. I would like to be able to make my way into a city and get what I need without being spammed to death.

does anyone remember pre-macro camping xp? it is no less boring than entertaining. There is no excuse for afk entertainers.

I hit the cantina again today. Well a different one but ironically enough it had the same afk dancer spamming for tips. It's enough to make me consider going rifleman just so I can kill things before they reach me. I really like pistoleer but where i'm at now i take damage often enough that i have to head to the cantina.
