Would be cool if we had skill tapes that actually learnt you something new, like how to add a certain effect to a trap orhow to increase it's 'Effectiveness' (to-hit) rating etc.
There would be lots of ways to reward the experienced rangers and player but sadly they dont at the moment. They do allow you to further your character over the master box but i do think they should be quest based to control the availability of them and make you work for your master+ tapes rather than camp or splash the cash around.
Idhave to say they dont bother me much realy, they have benefits, they have lots of faults, they COULD be great with changes.

Indeed, they could be great. But personally, one of the reasons I bought this game was the promise of it not being loot-heavy and loot-camping and loot whatever madness (which is beginning to go bye-bye).The problem for me is with a loot based equipment game, it allows the powergamers to advance far beyond the casual gamer. I mean no disrepsect to powergamers, but I am seriously casual and it bothers me that I should have to play a lot to get good enough just to compete, much less have fun. For me, once a game starts to cater towards powergamers period, I am done with that game and I dont want to see it happen to SWG. I will say that there should definitely be room for advancement, to satisfy that yearning for serious players, but some people just dont have the time to farm money for skill tapes.

I know what you mean, i wasnt bothered about lack of loot much until like the first month. This is the first mmo i have been part of and id say i can be prety casual (intensive if i need to be). I hate the fact im not rewarded for my efforts meaning i realy desire a good loot system in place so i can actually work for something.
When i first started i was like, cool yeah players make the best stuff, thats great no people camping etc. But all of a sudden i started doing quests, doing dungeons and taking down high level mobs and the rewards were very minimal. I turned into a loot fan, i wanted nice loot as rewards.
I think loot needs to be in and its very important, however i do see where you are coming from. I love the idea of non combat related loot rewards, they would perhaps have less of an impact on casual play and would be great. BUT i also like the idea that a named npc can drop his/her weapon or a type of person could be carrying a certain weapon that i have the chance of getting that i can use with pride.
I would hate to have a game now where if i kill a very high level person with my friends, we do not get rewarded, and trust me there have been many times i have literally hit the roof because there was no reward for killing insanly difficult mobs.
It would be very hard to make a game without good loot becuase it would get boring very fast, not worth the time invested etc. Although ideas to stop camping is good in my book, the solution would be instances, but swg cant suport a high amount of those like newer games can which is disapointing very much so.
