I grabbed some buffs and went in search of xp and creature resources. I got a group invite from our guild leader so accepted, if anything for the xp boost. The group was out PVPing so I also thought I could listen to them while I hunted rancors.
I dont know why I felt bored of rancors that night. But I took out one nest and decided to go to the IO on Dant. I pulled a couple of faction missions and went to clone. Wouldnt you know it. A rebel jedi was sitting in the cloner. Well I'll be darned. My group was looking for some PVP so I told them where he was. With the rebel jedi there I decided gaining a TEF and getting waxed on the return wasnt smart. 4 Imperial jedi showed and chased the rebel all over. Soon my group showed. And not long after that the rest of the rebel contingent showed.
I stood in the center of the IO and gave out tracking calls. Telling, in groupchat a player's name, distance, and direction. The rebels couldnt get close enough. Everytime they started moving in, the jedi on our side and the main group intercepted them. We moved to the MO and again I was calling locations. Still they couldnt get close. The only way they could get close was to shuttle into the MO from another shuttle on the planet. This worked once and tore our group up as it was split in half with some in the MO and some outside.
After rebuffing and healing, my group headed back to the IO to declare once again. This time I was sent in ahead of the group and gave tracking from the MO. A group of 14 rebels, half jedi, were stationed outside the MO north about 140m. And another member of the group was sitting near the loading zone waiting for my group. I knew their plan. Wait for us to load in then roll over us.
Instead of doing this my group loaded at a different shuttle near the MO and moved in from the SE. Taking the rebels by surprise. When I saw the battle was joined I stopped tracking and joined. Even managed to drop and get the DB on a high level jedi. Granted he had already taken a fair amount of damage but I still consider it a good kill.
5 minutes later the battle was over. A far superior group was destroyed thanks to sound tactics and one ranger's tracking. I was also told the rebel's groupleader was peeved to beat the band. This is twice being a ranger really made him mad. The first time was when I outran him and his FR3 with burstrun.
Rangers do have a role in the GCW. Being able to track players helps tremendously. Just make sure everyone on your side knows where your calling tracks from. The biggest problem I had was trying to make sure the group of jedi on our side also knew my calls. They werent in my group til later so I was sending a group message then private tells. Gotta be a quick typist. I finally shortened everything to Playername Direction Distance format for saving time in typing.

Niiiice. I'm trying to work up some good ideas for the Antarian Rangers on Gorath and was thinking along these lines as well. Glad to know it really works.
