Thread: In-Depth Ranger Trophy Proposal :)

This has been brought up before a few times now, but lately with the Dev team doing such a great job of responding to and considering player ideas for new content, it seems like an excellent time to present the subject again

As any longtime Ranger will tell you, hunting can get old. It doesn't really take long to hunt most types of creature resources in the game, nor does it take all that long to totally explore every planet (if that's your kind of thing). After awhile you may start tracking for people and hunting groups, but that too becomes old hat sooner or later.

What I'd really like to see implemented is the ability for Master Rangers to obtain Trophy Heads. Not just a few, either, but enough of a galaxy-wide variety for it to stay fun for awhile and give Rangers something new and fun to do in their enviroment. It would also give the profession another source of income, and being a Master would have a real tangible bonus (as it should be).

People would be lining up for these However, don't misconstrue this as "We want a chance to make more money!", please. I believe if this was implemented in the right way, it would enhance the Ranger experience greatly. I would suggest making the Trophies lootable, and the higher the challenge level of the creature, the less chance of looting the prize. For instance:

Durni Trophy... common

Stoneskin Hanadak Trophy... not so common

Ok, so maybe players wouldn't want a Durni trophy but you get the idea.

I'm no computer whiz by a long shot, but I can't see these as being hard things to introduce into the gameworld. The graphics are already there for all of the creatures. Pretty much just have to add the framing to hang it on the wall, I suppose. (disclaimer: I'm no computer whiz)

Now, there's 10 planets. Wouldn't it be great to even have 3 possible trophies for each world? Who wouldn't love to have any of these hanging over the mantle:

Naboo - Peko Albatross (rare), Ikopi Stag (medium), Gualama (common)

Lok - Gurk King (rare), Langlatch (medium), Giant Pharple (common)

Dathomir - Malkloc Plainswalker (rare), Kwi (medium), Purbole (common)

Tatooine - Krayt (rare), Bantha (medium), Eopie (common)

Yavin4 - Acklay (rare), Woolamander (medium), Mamien (common)

Corellia - Great Plains Stalker (rare), Sharnaff (medium), Durni (common)

Dantooine - Thune Herd Leader (rare), Voritor (medium), Huurton (common)

Talus - Frenzied Kahmurra (rare), Huf Dun (medium), Gulginaw (common)

Rori - Elder Pugoriss (rare), Borgle (medium), Squall (common)

Endor - Stoneskin Hanadak (rare), Bordok (medium), Merek (common)

Those are just my ideas. I tried to pick creatures that look very distinctive for each planet.

So if any Devs happen to read this, please take it into consideration, as I'm sure something fun and involving like this would make many, many Rangers very happy

And if any Rangers want to jump in and flame or approve, have at it

Thx!

I don't think I can support anything that encourages the hunting of pharples. They're so cute!

OH NO!!!! WAIT!!! WHAT ABOUT THE KREETLE????????????????? that should be the rarest trophy of them all, as it is our Arch Nemisis and we can't get within 70meters of them!!

i think its a really good idea, but if i may, i would edit 1 tiny detail:

rather than making them loot items, perhaps make *chop its head off* a radial menu option. And then you could maybe have varying degrees of success as you get more ranger skills? i am however talking put the *head-chopping* mods into each of the top 4 skill boxes and into master.

maybe instead of that, you could allow us to take different crittur levels at different ranger levels... so 1-20, 21-40, 41-60 etc etc or whatnot.

only reason i suggest this is that if theyre loot items it might get to the point where theyre deleted by us as Cdefs if every rill and every lesser plains bol drops heads.

also - if we can cut the head off, i want tosee it gone from the monster!!!!!

I like these options, but I'd also like to run around with a rancor tooth on a chain around my neck too. That would be a coversation piece.

I'd want durni heads in my Yacht. It would emphasize ranger insanity, and I am all for that.

Good idea, has been proposed before, but its always good to get a fresh outlook on it. This would go great with the idea of a Ranger "Big Game Hunting" terminal. Let us take missions off these terminals (they have been described elsewhere), and at the completion of the hunt we can take a trophy from the creature. But I do like the former idea about just harvesting the head as opposed to looting it, that way a larger variety of heads can be taken (and lets face it, we all want the mounted head of every last creature mounted on our walls, well, except the cute ones ) Though, as long as heads are ranger specific (crafting or harvesting), I am up for any idea.

I like the idea, and I'd add or confirm 2 aspects of it:

#1: Make it a Master Ranger skill (because c'mon, Master Ranger doesn't give much more in terms of skills or attributes than most levels of Ranger, right? So give us something exclusively for the Masters... Reward the hard work needed to get there).

#2: Make it a radial option with varying degrees of success, like foraging. "Your attempt at collecting a trophy was unsuccesful" or vice-versa, that way it doesn't garantee a trophy, and it rare-fies the trophy items, making them a) more valuable, and b) more of a "bragging rights" item.

This would add a very exclusive Ranger item to the game (which is definetly needed). Plus, more rare items make the game sooooo much more interesting, ex.: Vet Reward miniatures.

Great post.

I posted to a NECRO thread on this yesterday but in the interest of having all ideas in the same thread, Here's my .02 :

1. Skill is available at MR only.

2. The MR can click on a corpse and gets a radial menu option that allows him to create a trophy.

3. The MR only gets theCreate Trophy menu for a corpse that was killed by the MR orthe MR's group.

4. When theTrophy isplaced and clicked on it will show a plaque listing the player or players that helped take the Trophy.

ex. Ancient Bull Rancor taken by Vorpaks.

or

ex. Ancient Bull Rancor taken by Vorpaks,Owen Lars and Brisc Rubal.

5. Optionally if more than one player is listed on the plaque then they would be listed according to who did the most damage. Of course this would require the server to keep track of this information during combat and that may not be the case.

Skeleton Trophies:

It would come in different parts and crafted by a MR.

The trophy skill would harvest the bones of a creature: Voritor Skeleton

Assembly would require:

adhesives

metal supports

preservatives

voritor skeleton

and the outcome would be a display skeleton of a voritor.

On a side note, I just ran through some Dantooine caves for the first time in a long time. I bet those Thune skulls are going to be available soon.
