Heyas. I just picked up ranger, and WOW! Ive been interested in ranger, since over a year ago, I saw my first HTFB and nearly fell out of my seat. Ive thought about ranger off and on since then, but never seriously. Then I picked up MCH again ( Hrm. Ranger and MCH. Must be a glutton for punishment
) and I decided that 0440 ranger would be a tremendous help (I would master, but I dont have the skill points. I'm going MCH, Ranger 0440, Swords 0034, and novice medic) in my search for pets, and would help me make cash via resource sales. (Space is ok, but it gets very repetitive/expensive) Well, I picked up ranger yesterday after working hard on scout, and I am now 0210 ranger
I am on Naritus, and I have a lot of people helping me out with training, XP, and general tips of the trade. Unlike a lot of professions, Ranger is proving to be full of fun and friendly people.
I used area track for the first time on corellia, and once I got used to it, I dont know how I was getting by without it! Even though all I can see is a listing of animals and basic directions, its is SUCH a huge help! (Even if it is slightly buggy) And when I popped out my first field base, I just kind of sat back and grinned. I had wanted to do that for months, and it was a dream realized

Hi there and welcome!
I'm intrigued by your choice of Ranger skills
Althoughcamps look cool, they really do have no use at the moment apart from being a necessary step upto Master
. Not trying to put you off, just a bit of friendly advice that you might be better investing these skillpoints elsewhere (probably swords). 0040 should do you fine for helping with CH stuff and hunting. Of course this is only my opinion, if you still want your camps then go for it!

Congrats on picking up ranger.
It's funny you mentioned that.. brings back some memories.
I saw my first HTFB when I was a novice marksman/scout back in Nov '03. I was healing up in a basic camp when someone dropped a HTFB about 80m away. He was with a couple of friends and I could hear them talking about ranger stuff, since he'd just gotten the frontiering 4 line. It was night time outside coronet (I was still too scared to venture further than 300m from cnet)
I went straight to the Ctrl-S menu to see what I had to learn to get that camp. Lol.. I actually wanted to go over and check it out his HTFB closer, but the pulsating electric fence/force field looking thing intimidated me, and I didn't want to take a chance of getting killed by it or something.

Welcome to Rangerland. There's chips and dips on the table, and so long as they've kept the bothan out of the punchbowl some of the cool kids are serving drinks out back.
Hehe, HTFB Memories.
I remember coming out of Mos Espa and seeing an HTFB perched on top of the ridge of hills slightly to the west of town. I thought "What the hey is THAT??" and went running up, half expecting my poor artisan/tailor to get shot by whatever MoB had spawned...

Welcome to the wonderful wide world of Ranger. Glad to have you with us!
Feel free to ask questions... most of the regulars are very nice and polite and won't bite that hard

First time I saw an HTFB was in the krayt graveyard, while we were looking for a krayt to kill us (Back then, with our skills, it was more "Fun way to die" than "Looking for loot") when suddenly, we come to the left bend in the canyon, and across the canyon, on the opposite wall, was an HTFB. I was sure some nasty mobs had spawned, but my Friend Renea thought it looked interesting, and we headed over. We found a party of about 20 high level people (We were just novice riflemen with brand new T-21 and no armor lol) all camped out in this thing discussing how best to use their skills to kill the next one they saw. And there was this dude in the middle doing "Where is that?" emotes (The area track animation) looking for a Krayt. It was the first time I'd run into a large group of high level people, and it made a huge impression. That they let me stay in their camp and mingle, then join their hunt group was just beyond my noob brain
)
Months later, a friend of mine picked up novice ranger and began working it. One day he pops out with the High quality tents and everyonw goes "WOW! Wth are these?" He just smiled and said "Its a novice ranger camp." It finally occured to me to look in the ranger skill tree, and I found the camp I'd remembered, plus several others. I asked my friend about ranger as he worked on it, and he said it was like scout, only much more useful, allowing him to see where critters were from hundreds of meters away. From that point on, I was sold. But always with the "Make it dead" I was, never with the "Ok, now get something out of it". Now, once I kill a critter, I get some use out of it
I'm currently getting a BE I know some carnivore meat he needs as I level tracking. Everyone wins.
As for the camping tree not being useful, I disagree. The high level camps (Field base and HTFB) have crafting stations in them, any camp allows you to pull pets and speeders instantly (Something a CH will give his right arm for.A 15 second wait while theres something nasty just over the ridge seems like forever), and, not least, you can heal wounds in them, so you dont need to be in a city. I realize with the preponderance of cities in the game this isnt such a big thing, but think about endor, or dathomir, or yavin. Ranger is listed as a solo profession, but I think we have a great element of group ability that gets overlooked. Thats one reason I refused to give up novice medic. Not just so I could heal myself, but so I can heal others. In a hunt group (And the devs seem to be pointing us at making hunt groups) anyone with medic.doc, or entertainer skills can heal in a camp. So while it might not be uuber, it is very cool, and if you get back to basics, very useful.

Welcome Mot'
I must say that while Mot' is new to the boards, we have been working dilligently to corrupt him in the crazy ways of the Ranger over on Naritus. You'd think a few hours in the RIN would scare most non-rangers away... but not Mot'!! It just pulled him in closer... the sign of a true ranger.
Great to have you on Boards, on the RIN, and in the Naritus Ranger community.

I too am perplexed by your template choices. For one, to complement you CH skills, i would go 0000 in Ranger and run like hell from this profession.
I'm just kidding, get a grip.

Ooh controversial
I agree the with you on the good points of camps of course.
I also really wish they were much more useful!
As it stands now:
I do sometimes use one of the crafting stations to experiment on my camo kits. But I can just as easily do this when I go back to town to get my mind wounds and BF healed. I tend to make kits in crates anyway so I only do this rarely. I also have novice medic and wound packs on me at all times but even scout camps suffice to use these.
Again I can use a basic scout camp to call pets/speeders.
Most Docs have a droid anyway which is superior to our camp
Still, I am a Master Ranger so I must havealso been more impressed with HTFB at some point!
