I really wanted a creature recycler, so I started getting the parts.
I got the schematic in loot, no clue where, it was one of those days. Probably Tatooine, but don't quote me on that. The pulverizers weren't bad; red wire, batteries, no problem. A guildie found the feeder tube (yay for Sullustan Aussies).
Then we come to the agitator and the spinner blades. Dumbass me figures, Corsairs - Lok, POI. I armor and buff and off I go. Wow, I am alone. I lay waste for like 2 hours without a break and lo and behold, as I decide having maxed pistol I need to leave, I get a schematic. Yay team. That was not bad I thought (oh the foreshadowing music should have been playing).
Spinner blades. Corellia. Hidden Daggers. Oh they hate me anyhow, so who cares? 4 days later I have my 4 blades. I probably ran 35 missions, if not more. But that was the last parts I needed.
Then I find my good buddy, the Master Artisan/Master Shipwright. He says he can make my recycler. All goes well until he goes to make the agitator motor. Seems he had his craft machine on "Practice mode". If Alaska wasn't so far away... Ok, back to Lok. Hey, to his credit, Artisan is with me, and is there most mornings before me. 5 days later, 3 more pistol maxes. No schematic. I have been killing gurks, Corsairs, Perleks, Kimos and whatever else is in the way. This is frustrating to say the least. Good money and xp tho.
Finally, a guildie gets one. He plays after I usually get gone, and before my Artisan friend comes on. Yay Team.
Anyhow, to much relief, the recycler is made. I used it, it works. Turned odds and ends into stuff I can use on traps, one large pile instead of 5 small ones.
Now, I am told Bin pirates on Talus drop some heater element. I have killed like 10000 Bins in the past weeks and I have never ever seen one as loot. But it is time to look. I will remind Artisan boy to make sure his machine is not on practice mode. Twice.

ooooh name and shame them!!
Got to hate that sick feeling in your stomach when something well important goes critical fail on me. I'd hate it even more if I'd handed the gear over to some other crafter and they just suddenlywent 'uh oh'...

As far as the practicing, IT could be worse... I was grinding weaponsmith when a friend asked me to make an AV-21. I swear I turned-off that switch
I spent 3 days with My Commando/TKM (4 hour blocks or so) in the binayre POI on Talus and eventually got the needed 4 heater elements for a mineral recycler. I basically camped it, but was ATK the whole time and when other people showed-up wanting to do the same I shared. Only one blue wire so far though

I have spent 15 plus hours hunting pirates and have yet to get any schematics. Gonna keep trying. So frustrating. After a while its gets heavily camped. Several people just come up buffed and camp it like they are meatlumps. /sigh Guess I will try more ina day or two.

Had similar trials when getting mine together. Took a few days of looting to get the blades and agitator schematic (drop rate of agitator schematics is definitely lower than it should be, the amount of time to find one is beyond a joke really). When I had all the parts I really wanted to make it myself, so I took advantage of some left over artisan experience I had and traded my 1.0.0.0 medic for likewise in artisan. During assembly, I don't know why, but I tried experimenting with the agitator motor, and it was a critical failiure. I was about to throwa fit of wookiee rage around my house, but I found that despite this critical failiure I was still able to create a prototype!
