Thread: Just wondering about foraging loot possibilities

Hi folks

I was a master ranger for a short period of time and enjoyed it alot :-)

I was also a master creature handler with master ranger and eventually dropped ranger for a stronger combat profession after the great ch nerf lol.

I still have scout "since its needed for ch"

I remember during the old days lol summer of 03, that I used to forage quite often but today i find myself never using it. I am sure there have been prior threads about making the foraging commands more useful.

In my opinion I think raising the forage values to a possible loot system type reward and giving rangers a higher % in this. It just seems a natural extension that while in the wilds you search an area and find a crystal for example, an old weapon on a forgotten corpse buried just under the foliage.

A ranger/scout would have the keen eyes to observe the signs and know something may be here hidden under the leaves :-)

I did not try searching your forum for this and am sorry if its an old idea and I am intruding.

To sum this up. It would be a way for the uber/higher lootto be available to all the community. not just the afk campers in those few areas that spawn the higher loot. It also gives rangers a larger niche in the galaxy.

If this has been brought up before, and im sure it has lol, have you ever gotten a response from a dev/soe about it possibly happenening someday?

Ok im done rambling hehe

Yeah, it's been brought up several times before, or discussed how we could improve or change /foraging. Some have suggested just removing it entirely.

I think the problem with foraging loot, is that it wouldn't necessarily give rangers a niche -- rather, everyone would take up the line that gives foraging, and find some way to AFK macro /forage (like /sample) rare loot, rather than hunt for it.

Honestly, I'd be tempted myself, since killing endless NPCs gets boring.

It's an interesting idea, but it's just something that I think could be taken advantage of too easily with macros. (as long as they remain in the game)

As far as I know it was planed that you can find rare items with forage, but it never made it into the game. I hope that forage will be useful in the future, but I fear that people will start running forage macros if it would be possible to find something cool and/or useful. The problem would be the balance between finding things often enough to make it useful, but not so often that running a macro would make sense. I think that forage has a good potential to become a nice and useful skill, but I know there are many people who would like to see forage removed out of the game.

yea point taken and I agree

the only thing that might help the situation of afk foragers LOL might be that loot will be soo comon that no one would care to pay anything for it. and that wouldn't help you guys would it

ah well sorry folks tried to help. I just liked ranger so muchlol. want to make a character with it again but its kinda like being a ch sorta, wait let me explain lol.

very cool profession but your friends dont need you very often and its kinda a lonely world for ch's & rangers

maybe someday Il come back

sorry if I wasted your time

preventing afk foragers might be as simple (or as difficult) as making it into a minigame like fishing.

Foraging would involve an interactive pop up screen that would determine your success or failue modified by your foraging skill..

As far as I remember you could only forage three times on the same spot than you had to move some 10m away. So this could prevent macroing, or is there a way to move with a macro?
But maybe it's enough for the AFK folks to wait until the timer for this spot is reset if it is.
Anyway, I would love to forage some loot be it whatever it will be . Some nice stones to keep in your pocket or some credits (you forage 10cr ).

Only 80 spots in your inventory... kinda slows down the usefullness of afk /foraging in and of it self.

I thought macro looping was going to be removed thereby putting an end to most AFK silliness.
