Can anyone tell me how grouping with pets vs. droids affects mission size? And can anyone tell me how droids max'ed out for combat or as tanks, compare to pets level-wise?

I have no CH skills so I believe the highest level pet I can group with is level 10, and I don't know if the there is a "cap" or practical limit on the damage potential and HAM I should expect from an engineered level 10 pet. With a droid of course I can use a top-of-the-line Probot with just under 3200 HAM doing just under 200 points of damage per attack or an LE Repair droid with 6000 HAM.

Given that, which should I chose to get the best mission levels?

I've always been a droid user but would like to switch over to traveling with a good pet fora while if it makes sense to do so having no CH skills.
