Looks like those hoping to use the MAsk Scent everything technique to get to Ranger will be disappointed. I guess you'll have to harvest stuff now like everyone else.

It's not just the nerf. The skill is completely useless now. I'm a ranger, and the 1 minute timeout after a failure means even with mask scent of 90, I can't go anywhere hard. I still have IV to go (push me to 100), but the failure rate on endor is atrocious. It completely screws the description of a ranger as the 'go anywhere' person.

If they are going to nerf it, it should be 1 minute from the last time you applied it, NOT 1 minute from the time it failed. Thats way more reasonable, since if your skill is high already, you won't fail a lot.

I'm really mad about this. I'm not even a ranger. I am a commando with mask scent! People compare mask scent to Invisibility on EQ! HA! Newbie invis was way better than this. You can't go anywhere fun. My group and I were on some SIMPLE missions on naboo, we all died about 8 times from all the aggro, another thing was the sucky radar didnt pick up the red dots until we were right next to them BAH BAH BHA!!!

Pooh,

Have you tried using mask scent while prone on Endor? I'm thinking maybe the developers wanted us to use prone when traversing extremely difficult mobs, but I dunno. I was going to try and power my scouting xp on Endor today and it didn't work too well, I have level 1 in the Ranger Wayfaring. I noticed when I was prone it still failed a lot, but not as much. Figured someone higher up could give it a shot.

Another instance in which they could have easily fixed a problem but instead made it worse. Why not just lower the exp you get for using it. Make it low enough that "exploiting" it isn't an option, but have the skill still be useful for it's intended purpose.

Nope... that would make sense. Nevermind. Forget I suggested a reasonable solution.

I say the need to make the ability exactly as it was...just remove the any exp gained. I never did understand why you would get exp when you avoided detection. I get my scout exp the old fashioned way...from harvesting so I wouldn't miss it.

Just give me the ability to actually be able to run my missions and explore like I used to!

They have admitted they went to far... check out the posts in the CH forum and Holocron's long list of answers in the resource threads. To sum it up, it should be less nerfed by Thursday. It was a hotfix because people were getting four skill boxes in an hour and it looks like they said, "We gotta do something, then we'll fix it later..."

I can deal with a two day nerf and there was no question the amount of exp being generated was absurd,

heres the skinny on maskscent for those who want to know. it can be very effective when used properly. first of all boost boost boost that skill. im a m.ranger with a few modded items here and there and my mask lvl is +138 without jawa beer. second maskscent is dependent on movement speed so u stand a better chance of keeping your mask if your walking over running. if youre on a vehicle its almost impossible to hold your mask for too long. if your mask breaks the first thing u should do is STOP. dont move. wait out the timer, which by the way for master rangers is only 15 seconds. 8 times out of 10 u will be able to remask before u pull aggro. if u really want to become a maskscent master find a successful BE and go on a DNA hunting trip with them. BE's are experts at maskscent and know all the tricks. they have to be to be successful at their professions. critters dont respond well to being poked with a needle. lastly u shouldnt expect your mask to hold with adventure creatures i.e. rancors, krayt dragons, kimoglias, gorax, and the like. even at master lvl i have a pretty poor success rate with these guys altho i was able to get a BE friend close enough to a juv.krayt once with camo. and... oh yeah. kreetles have the best senses in the galaxy. i dont care how good your mask is if u go through a herd of kreetles theres a pretty good chance theyre going to sniff ya.

The correct response is I am not lost. I am just not there yet.

Actuarially the answer is. "No I am not lost, I know exactly where I am. It is just that I do not know where everything else is."
