Thread: Post-CU Creature Harvesting

Well, hunting in the wild won't be nearly as much fun, but one thing that brought me new hope was this:

creature harvests scale with the creature's CL.

So, myself and another master ranger decided to pull missions from a player city mission term. One of them was a CL81 gualama lair. Harvest per kill? 850-1000 units! We each walked away with about 14k units of wooly from ONE lair! Numbers were similar for fambaas and bolle bols.

The onlybad thing about this is that we can't roll the creature we want that gives a resource we want. Plus, since they're missions, well, that's not a whole lot of tracking to do.

Nevertheless, this little discovery has brought hope to me (I respec'ed from TKM to Rifles) and with such harvesting numbers, crafters should rejoice as well!

yah, funny... I had that exact same experience last night too....

Got me thinking about the much hoped for "/track" command. What if... you could /track for a specific creature, at a specific level (or make the creatures spawn at your current CL / current group CL). No waypoints (waypoints are for weenies) but you'd get a general "you note tracks for <creature type> heading off to the northeast" or something similar. Maybe a rough idea of the range as well. Once you get in the vicinity, you area track to actually find the stuff. Then you find a fairly large lair / set of lairs / wild spawn / who knows of <creature type> that you can hunt fora while. Maybe it pops more sets of creatures (5-7 waves?), maybe just far more creatures per wave.

Was also thinking that a hunt terminal for Scout / Ranger would be nice, if it allowed you to take creature only, and I'd love to be able to specify some combo of settings that only get missions matching that filter (direction, level, creature type?). Maybe slapping a mission term in a HTFB isn't such a bad idea after all, it doesn't tie you to a player city and allows you to hunt things that actually spawn at or near your level, letting you get decent harvests and xp. I know there have been better or more detialed posts on this, but I'm really thinking that getting a sweet "/track" skill is now more important than ever for us.

I'm just starting to play under the CU and noticed this last night. I was quite disapointed to find out that a ranger who hunts in the wild will never collect as much as a mission terminal junkie.

I currently am concerned with the amount of resources that are being granted in this fasion. As it stands, Ranger has to compete with every Novice Scout for selling hides. By uping the base harvest on high CL creatures we're seeing Creature Resource harvesting fall more in line with Mineral harvesting.

Wecan expect to see significant drops in the prices of good resources as a result. Where good Wooly might once have gone for 100cpu, it will now be going for much less.

In the long run that's better for the economy ... but if Rangers are supposed to be built around harvesting Creature Resources it really leaves us in a bad position.

We hunt creatures to harvest resources ... if we need to raise 200- 300k units in order to make a profit than it really isn't a great change for us.

The only exception to this would be if we were being put more in line with combat professions who are meant to gain alot of their income from loot and mission terminals.

I think ... before I can sign off on this change to the resource rate I really need to hear what role we'll be playing in the future.

I'm also a little concerned about the realism of the Creature Level to harvest quantity scale. Last night I was checking Naboo for bristley hide for battle armor cores and a tailor friend asked me to pick up some scaley for her. I figured I could spend an hour hunting. Turns out I spent a half hour and only did a pair of missions for spineflaps and ended up with a little of 5k in hide. The level 78 spineflaps I was harvesting, as only 4444 Ranger (couldn't respec tomaster) were giving up over 450 units of scaley hide. I canbelieve that if a unit in this case was a square centimeter. On the one hand I was glad to have a nice amount, on the other hand, it was rediculous. I'd rather have it be more realistic.

And the bristley hide was OQ 53.

Huh, this whole notion of how CL is worked out with missions has just made me think of something very postive... camo kits!!! harvesting for Talus camo kits used to be like pulling teeth, but now you can actually pull good harvests off a rasp.

I harvested 58K of Talusian Leathery Hide on Saturday doing group hunts from the mission terminals (and some of them were even bugged, yet we still had enough time in that hour and a half for me to amass this much in hide and 19K of bone hehe.)

Im wondering if the double xp thing is applying to harvests as well. I was on Endor hunting with friends for two hours on Thursday, harvesting everything out of habit... tonight when I log on I need to check how much hide I have in my inventory!

1 level 77 Dune Bantha = a little over 1k Tat Wooly Hide while grouped. This will definately makeharvesting creature resources on the starter planets worth the effort.
