But.. [devils advocate] does Ranger add any offensive or defensive modifiers? Without those all you are doing is boosting your swagger but not backing it up with punch. Worst still, you'll be pulling creatures above your effective combat level... (though that could be good for XP etc.)

Having said that, I'm currently CL60 and have been having fun (lag allowing) on Bria, just going out, taking a few missions, and happily soloing CL58-60, dying only occaisionally when I forget to watch for other critters joining in or thug faction eejits spawning right behind me.

The 'get them slow and stupid then kill them fast from far away' method was my preferred hunting syle back in the olden days, and now, post CU, it still is.

Must try on my armour sometime... and see what these buff things are about

My understanding is that the biggest for level is that you get a damage bonus/penalty for creatures below/above your level. I tried it last night when I went from level 39 to 40. I was taking more damage per hit at level 39 than I was at level 40. I stopped mid-mission to level up and try this.

I would kill one bantha and have 50% of my life left, after level up, I'd have 80%+ of my life left.

I would like to share my experiences on my recent hunt (this morning)for krayts. I was solo and was hunting krayts which had combat level 78 - 83. I am Master Ranger/Master Rifleman combat level 80. I used no armor and had no buffs.

I approached the dragons from the top of ridges looking down at them. I used my camo kits (they seemed to be working and these were kits I just crafted) and was able to conceal using /conceal command. I equipped my adv. laser rifle, went prone and laid still about 80m out and went under cover. It seemed that as long as I made sure nothing was around me and was prone "cover" worked.

I crawled my way to about 64m out and used advance aim first to get the accuracy bonus, then I used sniper shot, then startle shot. After this with the dragon closing I stood up and threw a pdart trap and followed up with startle and kneecap shot. I kited to about 60m and the dragon seemed rooted/snared in place. I opened up with head and startle shots to bring the beast down. If it got free and charged I threw another pdart and used startle and kneecap again to freeze it.

This strategy worked well for me as I was able to keep my distance and get off shots. Opening with advanced aim and sniper shot seemed to really cause the big opening damage and the pdart trap with startle shot kept the beast at bay.

With all the various bugs for rifleman and rangers, I was surprised to see at least a couple of things working. I tried to use other traps but the pdart seemed to be the only thing working. I did not try to use conceal shot instead opting to use sniper shot as my opening salvo. I wanted to share this with other Ranger/Rifleman as to what seems to be working and what is not.

It seems that if the other traps begin working then this new CU may be a lot of fun. It was fun figuring out what to do during the battle and tactics did matter. Pre-Cu I would have just been buffed, in my comp armor, and firing off strafe shot2 and everything.

There is some hope here gang. I am a long time ranger and appreciate the work of all the folks here on the Ranger boards.
