That's right. The CompUsa add advertised the Star Wars Galaxies starter kit to be released on 11-8. The biggest surprise was that it was for Xbox, Playstation 2 and PC. I know this is something they've wanted to do since this game was announced but I didn't think it would happen that quick.

I figured the release date wasn't right but the platforms are what surprised me.

Well I guess that would explain the rush job on the NGE... Lukas wants the P2 and Xbox versions under a lot of Xmess trees.

From what i saw the starter kit was actually a single player version of SWG. So no you wouldnt.

At first I expected this "Starter Kit" to be like the Everquest Online Adventures game. Kind of surprised its not.
It's currently being listed on Amazon for PC only (that I can tell).
Ultimately, I think LucasArts isn't happy with a loyal customer base, they want to pose SWG opposite WoW as king of MMOs (and as successor to Everquest). For that, they'll claw tooth and nail - especially if loosing one two-year vet yields 2 new players. Hey... if it works for them its smart business.
One thing is for certain - the Starter Kit wasn't listed along side ToOW because they were planning on reigning in some new blood. I checked Best Buy and EBGames today and couldn't find any copies of the game, chances are they will throw a major push behind the starter kit (based on the $18.00 price tag) in hopes of gettin the new folks - thing is you can't release a game and then revamp it completely while your new players are just getting the feel for it.
Chances are the Starter Kit is primed with very little software, software designed just to get the DL started... that way they can just push the current game files out rather than putting the player through a long install and then a longer update download. I am of course no expert though lol.

All the starter kit is, is this. Its a repack of the original game + JTL at a value price point. Its not the console version. Which was cancelled before the original SWG release.

What's funny is that "The Total Experience" included RotW; afterall the only other way to get it was Digital Download. I'm guessing they're plan is to get all the "Starter Kit" folks to just do Digital Downloads to get the RotW and ToOW content.
