Thread: Rangers beware of overzealous Mark hunters

Last night on Bloodfin, I was searching for the Pirate leader for the Mark of Honor. The way I went about searching, I stopped at the ranch first, then started to circle the ranch in ever growing diameters stopping every once in a while to /areatrack. I had my Master Ranger tag on and another Mark hunter stopped by the ranch as I was leaving. He asked me a question, so I kindly answered him. I did a quick track scan and found some evil settlers. I told him some settlers where over the hill to the west, he asked how I knew that. I then spent the next 5 minutes explaining to him Ranger and the /areatrack skill.

So he asks the question "Can you track the pirate leader?" This is where I made my mistake. I told him yes. He then stated that he would follow me and help me kill the leader. I tried to explain that the leader only gives the mission to 1 person at a time. That never sunk in. I take off, he follows me. We are both on swoops, so there is no outrunning him.

I had maskscent on and drove through a group of sevorts. I went through fine, they attacked my tailgater. He jumped off his bike to kill the creatures, I hightailed it out of there. About 30 seconds later I am flooded with tells from this guy. It got to the point that I was very close to putting him on ignore. I finally got him to shut up after I said I would help him find another pirate leader after I finished it.

So I end up tracking the pirate leader and guess who comes up from the rear just as I drop the 2nd pirate and get ready to take on the pirate leader. He's only a novice medic, as his trag says. I start to hit the pirate leader, hoping to knock him white before the other guy decides to step in. The other guy starts shooting him doing 60 damage with a CDEF pistol. (as my combat window stated) I finally get the pirate to go white. The other kid is closer and goes and attempts to talk to the pirate first. No luck, the pirate won't converse with him. So I'm thinking this is my lucky day. I walk up smugly, click on converse and......nothing.....must be warp.....click again.......still nothing....."Motherpussbucket!" It seems that 2 people shooting this guy at the same time has screwed something up.

Well, my noob tailgater then asks, "Now what?" I tell him to leave the area for a while and see if it will respawn. I go off to take care of some errands. Tailgate boy takes off in the other direction. I return about 45 minutes later. I do a player scan with areatrack and lo and behold, tailgate boy is sitting right next to the pirate leader, who is still white and will not converse.

I send him a tell asking him to leave the area. He says no, he wants the Mark of Honor. I tried in viegn to get him to leave the area long enough form the Mark to reset itself. I gave up, logged off, my hope of getting the final piece of the Mark of Hero dashed.

I am willing to help anyone, once I get my quests done. Just beware if you are attempting to track down the Mark NPC's.

I plan to get back at it tonight. I was shocked that I found the pirates in about 15 minutes. Master Ranger rocks!

Yeah, When I was doing the Hero quests I kept a monitor on the Planet Channel and just listen to all the guys whining about it. I was able to use /areatrack to get me through 2 of the quests but the other 2 I just happened across. These guys want to get it done so they can go back to loot hunting... Wheres the fun in that? When I was doing the quests I was running(not riding my bike) around in full tusken garb leveling up some Rifleman so I could use my trusty tusken rifle abit. I played the role a little bit of a Ranger wandering the deserts looking for someone in need or a Pirate leader to dispose of.

I haven't done the quests myself but I helped track the moisture farmer for someone... for three days straight... and never found him. However that darn Pirate Leader seems to like us very much. He shows up on our doorstep practically everyday and one of us kills him (causes him to turn white). I feel guilty about it... but what are you going to do?

I finally finished the hero quests... and while tracking seemed to help some of the time, i noticed that the spawns seem to pop up when you were on top of them.

however, i still get constant tells asking me to help them find it. Generally my response is that while sometimes it works, its usually better to find it the old fashioned way.

Man this sucks! Glad to hear that you found them the second time out - you certainly earned it.

I got mine, finally. After a week of trying to find the pirates, and often seeing them (on areatrack) and as I get there they despawn due to lack of contact.

I literally found the rancher in like 5 minutes. I did /ar, "saw" him, then went that way. I did notice that my open area map did not pick him up til I was within 100m of him.

However, I gotta tell y'all, I wore novice medic the whole time I was out running around. No tells, no constant whining... blissful peace. The one guy I did run into, I told him where a second pirate leader had spawned. If you run far enough off the initial contact, a second set spawns back at the initial contact point - or at least is did for me.

I have found the "Mark Of Honor" quite rare in this game.
