Thread: Help for a Ranger newb

I've just noviced ranger and I've got a couple of questions to ask:

  1. What sort of creatures/NPCs are rangers asked to track? Where is the best place to advertise (forums, starports, auction room etc) and how much should a ranger charge?

  2. What is generally considered the best branch to master first? As a rifleman the conceal branch first for obvious reasons, however the tracking bracnh could provide a steady income and a bit of diversity. Is this thinking true or have I missed something.

  3. Are ranger camps ever used "properly" or are they used pretty much like scout camps i.e. not at all unless someone is grinding.

I've tried the "read this first" thread, but couldn't really see the answers to my questions. If I missed an obvious link then please point me towards it.

TIA.

More or less as Calc suggests: Jedi quest critters and Hero of Tattooine folks. Best place to advertise is by putting up your "Tracker" or "Master Ranger" tag, and allowing your toon to be searchable by others. You'll get tells asking foe help tracking and/or job offers pretty reliably after that.

Tracking is popular and can be more or less your money-maker. Without my character or other reference near to hand, whichever line increases creature harvest (I suspect Tracking or Trapping) will help if you get into resource sales. Left to it's own devices you will find either Tracking or Wayfaring developed first regardless mainly from how the xp is generated. Trapping requires that you use traps on creatures while hunting, which might require rethinking your hunting style. Frontiering is similar to tracking in that regard, but potentially slower to raise. Best bet is to get a hunting party together and get the bodies resting up in your megacamps.

I've heard tell of some woodland bordellos, outside city limits and thus certain licensing and tax requirements. Again, depends on what's going on. Some people grind, some people gather large hunting parties, some people like being married in a giant campsite that makes one wonder what is being referred to in "roughing it".

We are asked to track most all of the rare critters and NPCs. Lately the Jedi quest spawn (graul marauder, stintaril prowler, etc) are the track du jour.Slightly less common is the Hero of Tat spawns. Krayts are still common requests, as well. If you do a search in this forum, you should be able to find all sorts of tracking and pricing threads. Keep in mind that all servers economies are different and that what one Ranger charges on one server may not fly on another server.

The tracking branch is the most useful, IMO.

I am comfortable in saying that they are rarely used as they have the same qualities as a basic camp. That is not to say that people don't still use them.
