OK, so I abandoned all hope this evening and was floundering about at home thinking 'oh s*d it, am quitting and taking up a proper hobby. Like stamp molesting or fish torturing' when the call of Rangerliness reached out to me and, after kicking the modem back into life, I headed off to a galaxy far, far away.
Checked my friends list, there was nobody there! Not even the ones am avoiding, lol. Did a /who on Tat and 15 people were listed, most of whom were AFK's. Crikey... looks like I wasn't the only one sat on my thumbs...
So, I mooched up a buff, strapped on my incredibly worn out tin man outfit and went off to GRIND rifles or 'hunt some critters' as I try to kid myself.
Gawd, but I actually had FUN! No distractions. Nobody to natter to about nuthin'. Just me and the wilderness and the beasties of Tatooine. OK, so it's not 'big game' like you lot like to go out and splatter, but I'd got tired of heading off to parts exotic only to find every man and his monkey there already, frying the place with their uber weaponry, or to get to the backside of beyond and find hte spawn had shifted or gone skinny on me. I was just out for a bit of quiet mayhem.
Mountain squill! I laugh in your face. Well, at least once I've monged you with some phec darts, some wire mesh and a couple of noisemakers. Then rattled you with headshots till you bleed. Herds of stinky bantha, reduced to piles of poodoo in minutes flat. Trap trap trap, skin, skin, skin. Gah, I was even using /area properly for te first time in a dogs age...
All in all I got a nice stack of hides for my neighbours, clocked up a shedload of rifle xp, silly amounts of trapping xp and more importantly, reminded myself that there's way more to the game than 'just' jedi and FS mega-grinds.

5 Stars for you bro. Took the words right out of my mouth.
I was a ranger before the holos and enjoyed it immensely. I loved it. Then the holos came and I dumped ranger quicker then it took me to load to dantooine. I was wrong for that. I grinded til I burned out. Then I got to play jedi and hated it so much I dumped the game. Took a 5 month hiatus. After the burn out left I decided to come back and do what I love. Ranger.
Still not a master but I aint grinding this. I am out to have fun. This is so awesome now. Before the rangers were so few and so far apart we rarely ever met one another. Now though I see all these truly cool rangers out to help each other and have fun. Got introduced to the RIN channel (thanks Kimi) and found a whole new world to ranger I never got to experiance before.
I cant even begin to list all the solo times I was out hunting and had an amazing time. Doing the Mat Rags quests was so much of a relief from the "Gotta get badges for FS" thing. I just wish they would expand on Mat Rags for us ranger/scouts out there. So far I havent met anyone that didnt love that little quest series.
Fishing quietly in the middle of naboo. No one around. Just sitting and watching the fish come in. Wow that was fun.
Hunting on Tatooine also. Going to the most remote area and dropping a camp for 10 minutes to trigger the spawns to start. Then spending hours, no buffs, or armor. Just me and my rifle popping dewbacks and banthas. Almost like reading hunting books by capstick or ruark.
Thanks Rangers. You all made my game fun again. Yah I still hate jedi but unless one starts to annoy me I dont care. I am too busy enjoying myself. All thanks to you guys. Kuudos to the Kauri Rangers.

I had a snarky comment all ready when I saw the title, but I'll refrain.
I'm glad you had fun and I hope you continue to find ways to make your play experience enjoyable. Happy hunting.

That is nice, to just be out there on your own. They are noobish planets, but Rori and Talus are pretty much abandoned. If you go unbuffed, yea I know a real big challenge for ranger, and just wander across the planet. There are some decent level beasts around there to fight, or wander into a cave and remove it's inhabitants.

I think the JTL Beta is quite a big reason for live looking kinda deserted at the moment, if my guild is anything representative here most active players are betatesting atm
And gah, wrong account *again*. I guess you guys have just to get used to darmokVtS posting as chenir for now heh.

That is how I got started in the scout profession in the first place. I played for6 months after the game was released. Ikinda went into all the profession. First I got Drod Eng but that sucked, then I was a musicianand a doctor but tips couldn't hold me on those profession for 2 long because back then we didnt make anywhere near what those 2 make now back. I always had a scout skill though. Had it from the start so I could camp and survive in the wilderness on my resource and survey runs before the massive machinery. I loved being able to just plop open a tent on the hills of Naboo and have people come join me in my camp since for awhile back then camps where the only thing that could be set up by a player followed later by drilling machinery. It was great to just sit and enjoy the environment and talk to the people who passed by. I guess this is how this game got me hooked since this is the only mmorpg that I really made friends and was apart of a big group of players. It was fun to be social in the wildernessand if I saw someone else set up with a camp I just went and sat in there camp for a while and healed just to help them get xp.
I quite after that 6 months since I saw nothing for me to work towards but I came back a week ago so that, whenever it happened, I could play as a jedi. when I first got in, I ran to all the POI and got badges but I am still faint with the force, which I think I need some themepark badges to get glowy but right now I'm no tin a hurry to get my FS slot. I am a novice ranger and I have found new ways of getting income that wasn't really open to us back in the day. Sure, we could sell our bones, hides, and meat but the new player economy ment that no one had the kind of money people have now so there wasn't much reason or incentive to go hunting for hours to just sell the hides, bones or meat for the amount we would get.
Well, Im glad your having fun again. I realized back in the day that grinding wasn't fun...and I am happy you found a way to make the game fun for you again. Happy Hunting
