Thread: Few Ranger Questions for the seasoned vets

Hiya, couple of questions here, sorry if they've been asked alot

I'm making a ranger for PvE harvesting for my chef. But as you prolly know, chefs need a bio engineer as well...so it's a toss up.

1) How much extra organics can a master ranger harvest, using veghash+droid. Is it significantly more then a plain old scout? (Right now with hunting4 and a droid I'm getting 80-100 units per relic-quenker for example)
2) The camo kits. I assume these are VERY useful in PvE...I imagine that you just got prone, pop a camo kit+mask scent, and pick mobs off one by one (I'm a rifleman) and send the droid in to harvest as you kill. My question is: does the camo kit make this technique ALOT easier, or is it not worth it.

If it's not worth it, I'll go BE...if a ranger is worth it for the added ease ande xtra resources, I'll go ranger.

Thanks for your time, and ignore the signature...Rothom is a work in progress

I seem to recall Master Ranger harvests 30% more than master scout, but i can't confirm that. I'd be quite confident in saying a Master Ranger harvests very little more than a 0040 Ranger.

Camo kits I like a lot, though I tend to only use them on Dathomir. They can be made as you're exploring and I do believe they are better than mask scent. You can't use a camo kit and mask scent though, its one or the other.

For high end PvE most riflemen may get buffed. Partly this is out of laziness to cope with the HAM costs of spamming specials. Partly, you can harvest a lot quicker buffed so its a practical expensive. There are Rangers here who could put us to shame with their ability unbuffed, but I believe few Rangers routinely hunt without a buff. As a buffed rifleman, ranger you can use maskscent and more or less spam headshot 3. I can more or less using a camo kit/maskscent and headshot 3 kill an Ancient Bull Rancor before it's closed on my position.

I'd say camo kits are more effective, but your highlighting of the words "a lot" means I'd have to say no, they are not A LOT better. They're just better.

From the sounds of what youre saying, Id go BE. You can't really take master ranger if youre just a harvest machine.

Camo kits work great for me on Dath, larger Rancors and Nightsisters tend to drop it if you getvery close to them, but with everything else there is just the usual small chance that it will fail, like mask scent.

On being a BE, to be an effective harvestor you will need to master a combat profession. Unfortunately BE + Master combat something-or-other won't leave enough skill points to get Master Ranger, you could get to the third box in either Tracking or Harvesting. Tracking when used in conjuntion with missions works well for me.

Misread your post slightly I think being a Master Ranger is the absolute best thing Personally I am not at all worried that it probably isn't worth the skill points invested. Sure I could kill stuff quicker with two combat professions and thus harvest more, butI wouldn't be a Ranger then. Go with Ranger

only a BE can make additives. You are better off going BE.

Ahazi: Kojo Anonkye (Master of Ras'kan Martial Arts)- TKM/Stickfighter(Master Fencer)

I must make a dissenting opinion here. I have always found Master Rifle, Master Sword, novice medic (or any other modestly uber template)+ harvesting line in scout will produce more meat per hour then Master Ranger + Master anything. The difference in harvesting amounts per creature do not offset the increased power that allows you to mow through any lair in minutes. If you can guarentee someone helping you, perhaps, but then you have to give a cut to them and you still really don't come out ahead.

Hate to say it but really, the only reason to be a Master Ranger is because you like it.

Ranger is not a profession. It's a lifestyle.

Your best bet will prolly be MBE + Combat(Master swords or rifles). You would have 37 skill points left...toss in exploration4 and you have 23 left.

A scout can harvest, not as well as a ranger..but it can harvest. A ranger however cannot make food additives.

I'm master ranger/master rifles with a dab of medic. I can pull down 100k of dath carnivore meat in about 3.5 hours.

Honestly, you are probably better of with the BE. Even if you only had novice scout, you'd only get double the resources by going up to Master Ranger (less if you used veghash and a droid, which you almost certainly will given that you are a chef). The BE will be a lot more useful to you than the extra harvesting (especially if you can go up to 0/0/3/0 Ranger).

With camo, they are not nearly as useful as you think. Yes, they can help (you can use /headshot3 to kill almost anything instead of /concealshot for some of the bigger stuff) but buffs and armor get rid of the need (just use strafeshot2 and you'll kill everything in no time at all). The camo can be helpful but I think you are better off with the BE.

In all honesty, I'd tell you to forget the Ranger. Yes, it would help you a bit but probably not enough to outweigh BE (although you should be able to make friends with a BE and get the schematics easily that way). Up to you, though.

Thanks for the responses I'm not used to such helpfulness on message boards!

Still have no idea what to do though, I think I may want to be a ranger just because I'd like to be a ranger (if that makes any sense).

I'm close to unlocking my jedi, hence the extra spot...perhaps I'll make the extra char slot a BE/Merchant.

Well if you're going for the extra char slot combo, my vote wouldbe chef/merchant and be/ranger... I am BE/Ranger now and camo kits do wonders for collecting DNA...

I am a little too in love with both my professions though, so I will praise them no matter what anyone else says
