Thread: Rangers in PVP

I have a question about what the Rangers roll is going to be in PvP. The Conceal ability that is coming with the no ETA update will be great if it helps in PvP. In theory when you have conceal on it would keep NPC mobs from detecting you, but what does it do to players? I would like to see this have an effect for PvP. I don't want to make players invisible, or even have the stealth abilites from games like DAOC, but even something as simple as if when you have conceal on and you are Overt, that other Overts either don't see you on their radar, or you show up as a blue dot instead of a red dot. This could give a ranger/group a distinct advantage in PvP that would make the rangers roll that much better and wanted. This would also be a must for setting traps to lure other players into for PvP battles. If anyone has heard about something along these lines being discussed please post a link, or if you have any feelings about this idea maybe we should bring this up to the Devs.

Drac,

These are all good ideas that have been discussed before.

Right now, I think it is best if we wait and determine exactly how the new changes affect the dynamics of our profession before we start asking for more.

I'm very interested to field test conceal on the live server.

For those of you who don't know me i'm master ranger/rifleman on Corbantis named Atomic, i can hold my own in pvp through cunning use of terrain neg skills/my kiting abilityand headshot 3...but and heres the cinch why can i not hide myself on the radar screen when i use conceal? i am not talking stealth as that would result in some cm rangers ruining life for all just a simple little tweak that meant a concealed master ranger would not appear as a red dot on the radar maybe just purple or blue, or maybe not at all. This would be broken in the same way a rancor detects you...ie roughly 1 in 7 rancors will spot me or perhaps combat would break it. this idea i'm sure has been covered but i have not spotted it, 'less you count the stuff on stealth which in all honesty don't sound great. If a dev reads this please respond as i have been sitting on this one a while and have thought it through as the only one of 2 things rangers need to make the 140 points worth it. the other being a to hit bonus on players.

The idea for true stealth would be available only at Master Ranger, so you couldn't be a Master Ranger/Master Combat Medic.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

i ran the math you can only get master ranger and novice cm so thats no biggy but true stealth would be ridiculous anyway...what is sensible for a concealed ranger to be able to do is dissappear off radar

That makes it possible to do a client hack. If the client knows you are there then the stealth can be hacked. That means the Devs are unlikely to implement it.

True stealth can be given enough restrictions to make it useful but not overpowering. That is what we are hoping for (although it would be funny if the Devs screwed up and CSRs started getting detected when stealthed).

Also, doesn't the conceal and mask scent skills merely apply to fooling creature senses? If you were to assume every player has a sophisticated life form detection device (i.e. the radar display), then it would be reasonable for players to detect you because such a device is superior to creature senses?

all i can say is that 99.9% of ppl aren't hackers and if i was concealed from the radar would not be able to 'hack' mee. there will be some ppl that will but hey thats what /report is for
