Camo has worked very well for me lately, I really don't wander around anymore without it. Traps on the other hand are different, stick with the scout traps. Sorry to say the traps given to us as Rangers (in my opinion) are not as effective. I find that adhesive mesh and phecnacine traps are my favorites.

I would definitely go for the Camo line over the trapping line if you aren't going for Master. It is better than Mask Scent since it also works against humanoids and you can give your non-scout/ranger group members camouflage to boot. The traps you get in the Advanced Trapping line aren't nearly as good as your best Scout traps (Phec dart, glow wire).

Sorry about not giving more information. My template is TKM, Ranger 4042/2044, Artisan 0034 (for survey and vendor). Upon reflection as much as I'm enjoying traps ... I really primarily use the scout traps so maybe 4042 is a better option. I was talking to a ranger in game who told me wayfairing was useless though ... Maybe he just didn't know how to use it.

Everything is "useless" from a certain point of view. You're not going to use traps if you can apply all the states with your combat profession. And you're not going to use wayfaring skills if you plan on fighting buffed, armored, and in the middle of things.

Also, you might want to consider TKM/Ranger 4044/Artisan 0033. The last surveying skill box would give you the 5 skill points needed for the top two Ranger skills without causing a huge problem with surveying (most people I know are happy enough with novice artisan for surveying).

Trapping is a decent option even if you only use scout traps. The extra trapping skill can really make a difference. You will hit more often with a higher mod (still not often enough, though).

Wayfaring, on the other hand, is mainly useful if you "sneak" around a bit. You almost certainly won't use the crawl speed very much as a TKM and I'm not sure how much you plan to burstrun. /conceal is more useful than maskscent but they require resources and still break more often than you would like. If you want to sneak around and see stuff without fighting, camo can be very useful. If you plan to do more fighting than sneaking, traps are probably more useful.

Well I dunno what you need ranger for at all... but, to give you an idea of how useful camo kits are... Mutant Rancors detect anyone on a bike at 60m or closer, even with mask scent, BE clothes and jawa beer. You can usually ride into a crowd of them with a camo kit

It depends on the rest of your template. Ranger is very hard to seperate from the combat profession it supports, and its important to keep that in mind.

For example, a Commando was talking to me and was -- don't ask me why -- considering dabbling in Ranger. I suggested taking Trapping isntead of Wayfaring, because Commandos can't apply those states. Trapping would also benefit a Fencer who cannot apply stun, and I'm not so sure /conceal is all that useful to someone who's going to run up to a creature and bash them over their head or launch rockets at them.

OTOH, a Carbineer, who can pretty much apply every state in the game, would get way more out of Wayfaring, in my opinion. Squad Leaders might like Wayfaring and Fronteiring, even; and Rifleman highly benefit from Wayfaring and Trapping.

Now, MY opinion on /conceal is that it doesn't work to my satisfaction until you have BE clothing + Master Ranger. But that doesn't sound like an option for you.

However, you also have to take into consideration that "fun" factor; whichever one is more fun is probably more worth going for, as you'll be more enthusiastic to work with what you have.

So, first of all, whatother skillsdo ya got? And second: what do you have more fun doing? (Sounds like you indicated trapping.)

Toodles.

4042. honestly the camping line is useless and same with the trapping line. If you don't have the skill points then just just 4 in the frontiering line, and 4 in the tracking line. Tracking gets you /areatrack, that is great.
