Thread: Hunting Competition

I think most rangers follow this rule for hunting: Usually no boring "contract" hunts, and we hunt at the highest price and gather any amount we feel like or have the time for. Not much variety in that, but it lets you hunt until you get as much money as you'd like, or until you get tired of it.

Recently, one of the Doctors on Kauri made a unique offer to Rangers and hunters. He needed Tatooine Herbivore meat (Not sure if it was for ABECS or Poison resist buffs) and was paying about the same as everyone else. 60cpu. However, to get the most amount possible, he decided to turn it into a competition. In addition to a bonus of 100,000 credits for each stack of 50k units, he was awarding an AV-21 deed to the hunter or group who turned in the highest amount.

Long story short, the spawn lasted for 21 days. My guild combined our efforts to produce almost 270k units of Tat herbivore meat. I managed to harvest about 180k units myself.

Anyway, the spawn shifted and I found out a couple of days ago that we were the winner! The second place hunter or group turned in 129k. We got the AV-21, and now we'll vote or decide which guild member gets the deed.

The funny thing is, being an all ranger guild, none of us really want or need an AV-21. Winning the competition as a guild was the main goal, and the AV-21 was the trophy.

It would be nice if more crafters did this, and more often. (Thanks to Darlik on Kauri, and to all my guildmates.. hehe)

An AV21 prize I havent seen. The only "competition prize" I've seen was an armoursmith looking for hide to make wookiee armour, he gave away a complete set to the "winner".

OK, just a couple of points of interest for those of you not in our guild, The Antarian Ranger Council of Kauri. Kimi is our Guild Master and a finer Ranger to hold that position we could not wish for (I have voted for him for Player of the Year nine times this week alone....that's allowed right?. However there is a bit of texture to this hunting competition that Kimi's message glossed over.

The AV-21, a very nice spiff to the hunt itself, is as he says not in great demand by the Rangers in our guild and some number of Jawa Beers will need to be consumed in support of the process of deciding what it's ultimate disposition should be. I believe we would welcome a continual, and drunken, stream of good ideas from the rest of you as to what to do with it. My latest idea is to put the deed in a pack, label the pack "AV-21 Landspeeder....Really, No Really!", put it on the bazaar for 6000 credits and see how long it stays there, and wait for the flurry of forum messages that sprout when somebody finally "falls" for the trick. Or perhaps standing outside the starport in Mos Eisley, grad the next brand new, day-one Scout to pop out, give them the AV-21 telling them that we are Dev's and this our way of making up for not getting Ranger Hats into Publish 11...and sit back waitingfor the flurry of forum messages..etc.

If we sell it and add the proceeds to the sale price of the resources harvested, we will I believe be able to pay the maintenance on our guild hall from now until roughly a time when we will actually be able to board a starship and hunt creatures on other planets with Laser rifles for real.

Lastly, as most of you can see from his post, Kimi has developed something of a....ahhhh....hunting problem. If I am not mistaken, he has named his harvest droid "MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH" and actually types the entire name in for each harvest command (while yelling it out loud) because it adds to the"texture" of his gameplay.

You may also not know that Kimi lives in a rural part of the country and has to pay for Internet access by the minute. Apparently he was forced to sell plasma to afford to stay on line during the last few days of the spawn and that seems to caused it's own issue, something about the dog being "fat and healthy".

But despite all of this, our (imaginary Ranger) hats are off to you Kimi for an epic hunt about which songs will be sung, a hunt that will inspire cantina brawls for years to come amongst those who "claim" to have been with you at the time, a hunt that has caused Doctors everywhere to smirk and utter "they soaked Darlik for HOW MUCH?", and of course a hunt that will have Tusken Warriors on foot for a generation to come.

Good Hunting and Clear Skies

I did something similar to this a while ago on Kett. Back then, I was using all my lots for harvesters, and there was a really great spawn of something. I was busy hunting, so I rounded up 5 newbies with Novice Artisan, gave them each a vehicle and 10K credits to cover transportation. My offer was that I would give them each 50K credits for aconcentration of 75%, and an extra 10K for each 1% above 75%. I also offered to give the person who found the highest concentration their choice of loot kit (this was back when these things actually had value, and usually went for around 900K full assembled). The lowest payout of the five was 110K credits, and everyone got paid (even whenthree people gave me waypoints that were only a few meters apart). They were all quite happy, needless to say =)

Lol.. Don't believe Fulton.

He's either been drinking jawa beers with vasarian brandy chasers, or hitting the life-day celebrations pretty hard.. or both.

Well, I'm always happy to rack my brain for ways to keep those that work with me entertained. :-)

It's a pleasure residing on the same server as you, Kimi - hell, if I wasn't a doc, I probably woulda gone the route of the Ranger myself. :-)

I'm still trying to think up another novel idea for my next big hunt.... if not before, look for another "prize" during the next big Lokian Avian Hunt, I'm sure. :-)
