I am wondering if master rifleman, master CH, ranger 0/0/3/0 would be a good ranger temp. For gathering resources, and traking creatures. Thanks

Actually the only reason to go Master CH is to get the most powerful pets in the game, which are few and they aren't any better than the CL50 pets. My template is Master Rifleman, CH 4-4-1-4, Ranger 1-0-4-0. A CL50 Gurreck makes many CH's with their Rancors run. Only problem is the Gurreck can keep up with swoops so both the Rancor and CH are kitty food.

I was just contemplating again today picking up a bit of CH. I have some pets from awhile ago, and wouldn't mind getting a chance to use them again.

Why bother with CH when you can get droids for ZERO skill points?

And Gurrecks can't keep up with AV-21s...the hills get them.

Go Rifle, Go Ranger, then get something worth the skill points. CH, over-rated, underpowered.

JB

who never met a pet he couldn't drop. Including Rancors and Kimos, all I need is time - but the CH drops first and I get that.

Bah bite your tounge ! ! /grin

I have both, and ill tell you a combat droid even a good one cant touch a good pet.. there is nothing like a pair of lvl 35 Bio cats,, wow talk about its GO time !and for even more fun with low end mobs 3 lvl 23's with 60 kin and armor,, wow talk about FUN.. Plus the total joy and fun of taming rare pets, and having a flying pet, mounts, there is no comparison.

Me personally, im droping ranger ijust have novice now,, as i lvl up more in rifle. to me ranger is a state of mind not a profession. I track better than tracking works, my lvl 4 camp is just as good as any ranger camp,, though takes a bit longer. I dont use traps, as a CH/ Rifleman traps just waste time. The extra harvest would be nice but soo i hunt for another 15 -20 mins and get the same haul.. I dont buff soo im not on a timer. I go for 30 mins, or 5 hours it doesnt mater.. i dont generally mask scent either,, i did when i was a bio and DNA but hunting i can get around with out mask, even while walking. Im goodi was a walking miner before vehicels with no combat,, now that was hell lol. I know all you rangers are probly cursing me now,, but honestly ranger isnt about a set of skills its a way of life..iveknown novice scouts that are more ranger than some masters.. No offence to any one in particular,, most of these were holo grinders,, :::flail hologrinders..

I could keep ranger and 3 boxes, but instead ive opted for ranged suport and Sqaud leader..ranged support, surpression can be nice here and there, andthe tumble to, is nice, and warning shot,, for when things get really dicey,, switch to the old spray sick and spam warning and you can disperce and entire group of wild agro.. even with no buffs,. though pixey is generally in order when it comesdown to that. I hunt unbuffed in chitin, grouped with my pet. the sqaud leader crawl bonus plus +25 crawl tapes, and travel biscuts,, ohh my god i can crawl as fast as people run... something moves 15m outta range im back in range in a second.. faster than most can get to standing from prone and start runing towards it im already back in range and firing again,, its sooooo awsome. Plus if you have someone else in your group you can do /sysgroup messages still,, yea its fluff but its still cool to beable to flash a sys message on someones screen

No mater what skill boxes i have ill always think like a ranger,, if i just have novice scout.. or master ranger my game play doesnt change..

See, your problem is you are thinking like a CH, not a Ranger.

I use traps almost on every kill. Besides the xp (FS is sooooo long) it helps me solo stuff. No buffs either, orarmor for that matter.

My droid is better than your cats, in that he doesn't eat (batteries last way longer now) and if he dies, there is no emotional attachment. Droids are tools, pets are ... well pets. Animals are made to be harvested, not named and made to act like slaves. (For the record, I have pets RL, they run the house, I live there)

So get out of the evil CH mindset... itgives you fleas anyhow... all them furry things near you. Admittedly, pets were fun til they got nerfed silly - that's when I went droids.A sand panther is not the same as a CG, and I am not spending SP to get another one.

I agree and disagree with JB, doing both routes. And I'll admit as soon as I get bored with CH, I'm dropping it for Master Ranger. I'm kinda waiting for the devs to give Master Ranger something useful(like making this new Ranger/Scout loot system Master Ranger only), or for me to finish Rifleman. But I do plan to drop eventually. Pets are nice, but I am a Ranger at heart.

That's my exact template and it works very well. Since pets still count towards your mission level without taking part of the reward you can get good, high level missions if you want to do it that way. As a rifleman I actually use my harvesting droid so that give a little harvest bonus and means I don't have to run around from kill to kill.

Not needing Master is also true though. My main hunting pet is a narglatch around level 50 with 60% kin resist. Cats are nice and fast. My Monster level 68-70 Rancors are usually only brought out for taking missions. And the Kimos are just eye candy!

I am Master Rifles/Ranger with 0003 CH. It gives me the pets up to level 19, or two smaller pets out at the same time. Not only do pets make a great meat shield, but they can do some decent damage as well. Plus how cool do you think I look roaming through the forest in my dirty green coat, T21 in hand, and two large cats following close behind? Thats right, damn cool! Ive got a droid as well, I call him Stavros and he does my evil bidding. I say get CH. If you dont plan on taming creatures then you dont need to worry about the taming line. If you can find a MCH to teach your creatures for you then you dont need to worry about the teaching lines. I personally would suggest the management line, as that actually influences a physical variable when fighting, ie the number of pets you can have in the fight.

I'd really like to have CH skills to help me hunt. Like the previous post said, a damage dealing meat shield.

Droids are handy, I'm a rifleman so I find my harvesting droid very handy. However, my droids just don't seem to make as good tanks. Then again, I've never tried a self-repairing droid. I mainly use two droids, either my R3 harvestor (+106) or my R3 combat droid. Both 3K Ham.

However, for those 18 skill points I have left over from master ranger / master rifleman, I've ended up opting for 1/0/0/0 medic. This allows me to do two things. Firstly, as long as I'm filled up with brandy, being able to stim myself enables me to keep firing my rifle (say, lots of head shots). Secondly, if/when I take aggro, being able to stim myself means that keep taking a beating. I've gone so far with this, that I have a couple of wookiee sage-hoods with Bio-engineered tissues to enhance my healing skills.

Having the medic skills is good for me aswell because as a ranger I see myself as the one who must protect those who are adventuring with me. So having some healing abilities let's me do that more effectively.

Having said all that, I'd reall love to have a couple of BE'd big cats running along with me. If the HAM revamp and combat revamp(it has yet to earn the title of combat upgrade in my eyes) render my use of stims worthless, I'll probably change over to some CH skills, as long as they don't nerf CH.
