Firstly I'm on the Holo grind, I've been through 13 professions and am on Rifleman and Ranger at the moment.

Ranger for some reason is one of my favorite classes so far, I'm not sure why, I don't seem to do much with the class, but there's something about it that strikes me.

I think the class has a ton of potential, but certainly needs some work to make it more useful.

The only though I've had so far is concerning the trapping line, I'll post it here so people can say good, bad, been thought of already, etc.

We all know that traps in general have a certain lack of usefulness to them, my idea has nothing to do with combat as a Ranger but more to do with the economics of SWG itself.

I think that it would be a great addition to add net traps to the Ranger Trapping tree so we might sell wild beasts on the open market. I understand that this will probably take some work, but a big net animation that is thrown out from you and covers your target causing them to lay down would be great, then some kind of cage we can make to hold the beast.

How is this useful? It would mainly be for the Creature Handlers, perhaps useful in PvP as a knockdown, I'm not sure, but the main thought in my head was for us to be able to trap creatures, and bring "Wild Animals" back for sale to people.

The person would still have to tame the beast, which could prove a challenge, but would enable people to:

A: Hire Rangers to go out, track down their prey, and haul it back to the buyer.

B:: Trap random animals for sale.

Would probably have to set a very low limit on the number of trapped animals you could carry ( 1? ), but it'd be an interesting addition.

Again I don't want to tread on all of your toes, I haven't been a Ranger long, but thought I'd throw this out there for people to think about.

Interesting idea. I guess it would have to be limited to taimable pets only, then these could be traded to Creature Handlers. Limiting it to one at a time would be good since we be less likely to upset CH's.

This was proposed in the Outdoorsman Proposal.

As NRaas states in the proposal:

Live trapping is a skill available to the best of the outdoorsman. The ability to trap a baby creature and transport it unharmed to a prospective buyer makes the skill a profitable one. The outdoorsman does not have any knowledge in controlling the creature once it is released however, simply the ability to store and handle the creature while in stasis.

  • Possible Implementation:

    • A creature container can be used with the /capture command available at Novice Ranger to capture a baby creature and store it within the player's datapad
    • A player's Trapping skill would determine the CL of baby creature that player could ever hope to trap
    • The only option available for the creature would be to release it, returning it to the game space so that a Creature Handler can attempt to tame it
    • Using the datapad would limit the number of creatures a Ranger could collect for transport

      • The limit would increase in skill: Starting with 5 at Novice and increasing 2 for each branch of Advanced Tracking and 3 more for Master

Something like this is on the wishlist. A net/cage thing to catch baby animals to sell to CHs who can maybe tame em.

I think I would rather try this with the babies than some full grown critters. Can you see anyone carrying a full grown gronda home?

however, i could easily see carrying a baby gronda home, then dropping it at my friends feet and watching him tame it. So many times Ive seen baby creatures I know my friend wants, but hes not on, and so many times Ive wished Rangers had a net trap like this...

well the trapping of creatures aint really useful at mo, as pets dont decay. ok they have vitality loss, wow that only happens when they get inco'd which is hardly ever.

many changes need to be done to some profeesions as they are useless at the mo.
